THEY didn't wait any time and rushed to New York, said goodbye to Rachel and took some pegasi to camp.
Cassie and Annabeth hadn't spoken since their fight, and they were promptly ignoring the other. Was it uncomfortable to the group? Yes. Did they care? Not enough to make up.
They landed in the middle of the cabin area and were immediately met by Chiron, the satyr Silenus and a couple of Apollo cabin archers.
"I feared as much," Chiron said. "We must hurry. Hopefully you have slowed down the Titan lord, but his vanguard will still be coming through. They will be anxious for blood. Most of our defenders are already in place. Come!"
"Wait a moment," Silenus demanded. "What of the search for Pan? You are almost three weeks overdue, Grover Underwood! Your searcher's licence is revoked!"
Grover took a deep breath and explained everything that had happened with Pan, but the stubborn Silenus refused to listen. Until Chiron butted in and reminded them they were preparing for battle.
Everyone was at the clearing, dressed in full battle armour, but this time it wasn't for capture the flag. Every single person was doing something; setting the catapults, discussing strategy, handing out weapons...
It looked like a pretty good set-up, but Chiron muttered next to her, "It isn't enough."
"I don't know," Cassie said. "It looks pretty great- I believe we do have a chance."
The girl had seen the power of Kronos and his army, what they were capable of, but she was also confident in the people at camp and their own skills.
Chiron smiled softly at her. "We do, maybe we can be victorious today."
Cassie smiled at him. "So, what do I do?"
Chiron didn't hesitate. "Go where you're needed the most."
The brunette nodded and pulled out her sword.
Annabeth came up to her. "Cassie I-"
Her voice wavered. The ground underneath them was trembling.
Everyone in the clearing stopped what they were doing. Clarisse barked a single order: "Lock shields!"
Then the Titan lord's army exploded from the Labyrinth.
Cassie had been in fights before, but this was a full-scale battle.
The first thing she saw were a dozen Laistrygonian giants erupting from the ground, yelling so loudly her ears felt like bursting.
One of the giants bellowed at the Ares phalanx, smashed it sideways with his club, and the entire cabin was thrown aside, a dozen warriors tossed to the wind like rag dolls.
"Fire!" Beckendorf yelled. The catapults swung into action. Two boulders hurtled towards the giants.
One deflected off a shield with hardly a dent, but the other caught a Laistrygonian in the chest, and the giant went down.
