CASSIE hesitated in front of Percy's door. Her fist was just about to knock on the door, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.
It was August 18th, Percy's birthday.
For that day, Cassie had sneaked out of camp (not really, Chiron gave her permission), and went to Sally's and Percy's apartment in New York.
Under her arm, the brunette carried a package, enveloped in a pink flower pattern- the Stolls said they didn't have any other wrapping paper, Cassie didn't do it on purpose.
The demigod had fought in battles, monsters, and went on deadly quests. And yet, she was nervous to knock on the apartment door of her best friend.
But she finally did it, she knocked twice.
The door opened, "oh hey- Cassie?" Percy's shocked face quickly turned into a wide smile. "What are you doing here?"
Cassie laughed. "Your mom told me she would teach me how to make her famous blue cookies."
"So you didn't come because it's the seventeenth?"
Cassie pretended to not know. "Is there something special today?"
"Cassie!" A voice called from the inside, Sally rushed to the door, smiling at the girl. "I thought I heard you! Come in come in, I hope Percy didn't give you much trouble."
Cassie half-smiled. "Eh, usual Percy trouble."
Percy pretended to be offended while Sally laughed.
Inside Tyson was blowing balloons, unaware that Cassie was there, while a guy the brunette had never seen in her life filled a bowl of chips.
"Who's that?" Cassie whispered-asked Percy.
"That's Paul Blofis, my mom's boyfriend."
"Do we like him?"
Percy thought about it. "We do."
Sally continued talking. "Of course I had to make two extra cakes for Tyson, so there will be enough for everyone- oh this was a wonderful surprise Cassie!"
Cassie smiled. "I figured that if I called through IM I would spoil the surprise."
"Percy?" The man from before came up to them. "Can I borrow you for a second?"
They left the room, Percy went to talk with Paul in the kitchen.
Sally sighed. "Boys."
Cassie had to agree with her.
Sally noticed Cassie still had the package. "I'll leave it in Percy's room don't worry."
The younger girl handed her the present with a thanks.
"Cassie!" Tyson rushed to her. "You're here! Yay!"
