THEY had gone from the reservoir back to The Empire State- where Kronos's forces were closing on them.
Cassie hadn't hesitated before going into the battle, helping anyone she saw.
Out of the corner of her eye she spotted Silena in trouble, fighting against a Hyperborean giant.
Silena's eyes lit up, "Cassie!" She dodged an icy shot.
Cassie tried to distract the monster, "here you malformed Elsa!"
The monster roared, trying to freeze Cassie with its ice breath, Silena took advantage of that and jumped on him.
"RAWWWR!" The giant staggered backward, blue blood trickling from his nostrils.
Silena hit the pavement running. The Hyperborean breathed a cloud of white mist, and the temperature dropped.
The spot where she'd landed was now coated with ice, and her hair was covered in frost like a sugar donut.
"Here!" Silena yelled. "You're too slow aren't you?"
Blue Boy bellowed and turned toward her, exposing the unprotected back of his legs. Cassie charged and stabbed him behind the knee.
"WAAAAH!" The Hyperborean buckled.
They waited for him to turn, but he froze. Literally turned to solid ice.
From the point where Cassie stabbed him, cracks appeared in his body.
They got larger and wider until the giant crumbled in a mountain of blue shards.
"Huh," Cassie said, "I've never seen that before."
Silena dusted the icy frosting from her head. "Same." She then turned to Cassie and hugged her. "Cass."
She smiled into her shoulder, melting into the warm embrace of the girl she considered an older sister. "Lena."
Silena laughed at the nickname ten year old Cassie had given her. "I love you- I'm so glad you're alive, you had me worried to death."
Cassie smiled again, believing her. "I love you too."
"Hey you two!"
They turned and saw Percy, "fight's not over!"
Cassie sighed dramatically. "We better go before Jackson gets his panties in a twist."
"Heard that!"
Silena giggled. "Let's go."
The next hour was a blur. Cassie fought like she'd never fought before- wading into legions of dracaende, taking out dozens of telkhines with every strike, destroying empousai and carefully knocking out enemy demigods.
No matter how many she defeated, more took their place.
Percy and her raced from block to block- Silena had joined her siblings- trying to shore up their defenses.
