THERE was a woman, about eight years old, sitting cross-legged next to Mrs. O'Leary, scratching the hellhound's ears.

She poked the fire with a stick, and it seemed to glow more richly red than a normal fire.

"Hello," she said.

Cassie gaped, she had seen that face in camp several times already, tending the fire, helping around, offering Cassie good advice. But why she was there, the girl could not know.

Nico bowed to the little girl. "Hello again, Lady."

Cassie bowed too, nudging Percy to do the same.

"Sit," she said. "Would you like some dinner? He is coming soon."

"He?" Nico asked warily.

She didn't look worried. "Nothing to fret about, you'll see."

Cassie had the feeling she should fret, but she just couldn't get up and tell a goddess there was no way they were staying.

The goddess waved her hand and a picnic appeared at the edge of the fire.

There were plates of roast beef, baked potatoes, buttered carrots, fresh bread, and a whole bunch of other foods Cassie hadn't had in a long time.

Her stomach started to rumble. It was the kind of home-cooked meal people are supposed to have but never do.

The three sat huddled together, Nico and Cassie began stuffing their plates, while Percy was more reserved.

"I recognize you now," Percy said. "You're..."

"Hestia," someone finished. "Goddess of the Hearth."

They all turned to see who had spoke, and once they had found him they couldn't look away.

At first it was both Nico and Percy, but soon the later managed to look away. There was something so magnetic about that man, he exuded confidence and something else entirely that attracted you in like a sweet fume.

At first his entire body and face changed, all though not in an aggressive way, as in you like something and then it changed into something you liked even more until it settled into something that was perfection to your eyes.

Nico stared agape, Hestia only smiled softly in response at the man, and Cassie, well, Cassie glared at him.

He walked calmly, smiling at them. "Goodnight."

Cassie's lip twitched. "Is it?"

He sat beside the goddess, in front of the demi-gods. "It seems so."

Hestia nodded at him. "Eros."

"Hestia." He said backs

"Wait," Percy said, "you're Cassie's dad."

Eros lip's twitched, the same way his daughter's had. "You're sharp as marble, aren't you?"
