The next few days were a flurry of several activities. Ray's charm of course worked on my mom who happily agreed to move into the condominium with us. To my surprise, Ray had enrolled my mom in several crafting classes so she could keep herself busy and not get bored at home now that Ray had convinced her she didn't need to work.
When my mom protested about the allowance I gave her, Ray swooped in and assured her that I got paid as an employee in the hostel and that she need not worry about it. My mom trusted Ray so much she happily told her friends about her son getting a new high-paying job and having a wonderful partner. The last part was true and I still felt a little bad about the first but I'm happy to see that my mom looked less stressed now that she sleeps at night. Explaining to her that Ray and I need to be at the hostel most time, she had no problem that we are mostly not home.
Ray on the other hand is very busy since the hostel is finally opening in two weeks. The three friends and their partners are already up to their necks with the last-minute preparations. It surprised me a lot that Ray is actually really into this. I had always thought he was just a rich boy who would never want to do any heavy lifting in his lifetime, but to my surprise, he and his rich friends are passionate about this business.
The clock is ticking on my deal with Ray's dad but since that morning when I met my father to sign the acknowledgment and accepted the condominium papers, I had heard nothing else from him but that I just needed to be patient. I had no choice anyway.
The other problem is with my friends and that I plan to resolve now although it felt a lot harder to do it. So that Friday night, I felt my steps were a lot heavier when I approached the group who were already chatting merrily in the restaurant that I told them about. I waved to Gin who hollered "Hi Gorgeous!".
"Hey let's order a lot since by some miracle, Yok is paying!" Sean was merrily teasing.
"Are you going to tell us how come you seem to have more money now? I don't believe for a minute you'd move yourself and your mom to a condominium that Ray bought. Your stupid pride won't let you," Gram declared as he drank from his beer bottle.
"My father bought it," I let the cat out of the bag.
"Father?" Hia Gumpa was mystified.
"Yeah..." I shrugged, as Gin served the food.
"Hang on... Yok we've known each other the longest here. You do not have a father," Sean eyed me looking bewildered.
"I do, just never wanted to talk about him. I'm an illegitimate son," I said, trying to avoid revealing his name.
"Illegitimate son of whom? That condominium must have cost a fortune," White finally spoke calmly observing my reaction.
"Athrit Kittisak," I revealed softly.
Someone choked on his beer- probably Black, Sean sprayed Gram with the drink from his mouth and Hia Gumpa gulped. Only White remained calmly staring at me.
