Valyria woke and heard the screech of dragons. She looked out of her window and saw Meleys, Rhaenys' dragon. She quickly dressed for her lessons with Aemond, Jace, Luke, Aegon, and Ser Cole, and raced to the courtyard.
She did and saw that her grandsire Corlys was there as well. He was demonstrating how to hold Luke's practice sword properly, saying something about him needing it to succeed him.
Once again, her Mother, Grandsire, Rhaenys, cousins, Daemon, and Alicent were all up on the parapet, watching.
"Ah, the reason we're all here." Corlys hugged the girl gently, then noticed that she was in fighting attire. "You train with the princes?" She nodded. "Of course. Father taught me well."
He raised a brow at that. In his mind, the only thing Laenor had ever done was entertain his young squires.
He backed up and watched as she struck a training post, twisting and turning as she hit.
Cole called for them all to stop and gather. Valyria noticed how he blatantly ignored Luke and Jace, and when he did regard them, it was with a cold expression.
"Princess, you may instruct your brothers. Aegon, Aemond..." She went to the training posts with Luke and Jace.
"Put your foot back, yes, like that, and then pivot and force all of your strength into one point. You want all of your energy to come from the pivot and go directly into your enemy's chest." She demonstrated and pushed into the training dummy.
"Very good, granddaughter. You fight with steel?" Corlys asked as he eyed her blade. She nodded. "Not Valyrian, because I lost to Aemond, but I have my own steel sword. Ser Criston thinks it best that I graduate from practicing sticks."
Corlys nodded. "For how long did Laenor teach you?"
"Since I was younger than Luke. I had finally disarmed him before we went to Driftmark." She thought for a moment, then held the blade up.
His eyes widened slightly. "You wish to fight me?"
"I wish to learn from the Sea Snake. I've heard of the Stepstones."
He chuckled but shook his head. He was an old man, and he believed that men were better suited to the swords, and women to the... womanly things.
She reluctantly obeyed, and for he next few hours, Cole trained her.
"Aemond, Aegon. First Blood rule." Everyone but Aemomd, Aegon, and Cole cleared themselves from the courtyard.
"First blood wins the duel. And..." Cole chuckled. "The winner has the privilege and the honor of escorting the Princess to her nameday celebration." The boys snapped to attention at the incentive.
