{ See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns }

Valyria was once again celebrating her nameday, and once again, there would be a spectacular ball. This one, though, was deemed to be different. It would be a masquerade, per Alicent's decree.

Valyria was preparing for it at that very moment. She wore a dark red dress the color of blood that was off the shoulder with long sleeves and a hem that reached her ankles. She did her hair down in intricate braids and had a black demi mask on.

Melara's work was done, and Valryia walked to the ballroom. But before she made it, a hand grasped her arm, and she was pulled into a room. It was dark, only one candle that gave her a glimpse at Aegon's face before he kissed her passionately.

He kneaded his hands into her hair, undoing some of the smaller braids. She groaned and pulled back, huffing.

"Aegon," she said frustratedly and re-did the small undone braids.

He chuckled. "My apologies, betrothed. I missed you," he said in a whiny tone. She rolled her eyes. "We both need to go. Someone will see us if we go together. I will go, and you stay here for a few more moments before leaving."

He sighed. "If only this was easier." She had to agree. The stupid rules dictated that they were not to be intimate or physical before marriage. But...

Valyria was fifteen, and she still had not yet bled, which was concerning. Alicent was considering bringing her to a specialist of that kind, but Rhaenyra had denied that.

Either way, they could not wed until she bled, and at the present rate, they would not be allowed to be close together for a long while. Nevertheless, Aegon would still pull her into hallways and whisk her away as much as he could.

He was a rule breaker, and that was intoxicating to her.

"But, the thrill is exhilarating," he commented, then eyed her. He pressed one last kiss to her lips, then gently bumped her with his hip.

"Go on."

She giggled to herself as she slipped out of the room and walked down the hall. Two seconds after walking out of the room, Cole had caught up to her. He walked behind her and she smiled.

"Happy nameday, princess."

"Thank you, ser. If only you were permitted to engage in the festivities, it would make for a much livelier night." He sighed. "If only, princess. But, I quite enjoy my position as your protector."

"And I in turn thank you for your loyalty. Hopefully, this will be a calmer nameday than the previous ones."

But when the doors opened for the princess and her guard, she knew that it would be anything but.
