{ no one could touch the way we laughed in the dark }

That night, Aegon slept at his wife's side, as he always did. But night terrors plagued his sleep, and he eventually woke with a start, panting heavily. His skin was glossed with sweat, and he felt ill. But really, he had just relived the horror.

The horror of seeing his wife walk into the throne room—covered in blood with a dagger sticking out of her chest. It was terrifying, and even more terrifying when he saw the mighty girl fall out of exhaustion and sheer pain.

He sat in bed, looking sideways, seeking out his queen.

Fear seized him once more when he saw an empty space.

"Cole!" He bellowed and immediately raced out of bed, grabbing his sword and throwing the door open. Cole was at the door, not having yet ordered the Night's Watch, and saw the petrification on Aegon's face.

"What is it, Aegon?"

"Valy—She's gone. Cole, where is she?" He couldn't stop panicking, paranoia taking hold of him and making him think of all the worst scenarios.

One was this—She was taken from her bed by more assassins. But instead of killing her, they would hold her hostage. Otto wouldn't entertain their ransoms, so they'd send pieces of Valyria back until she was nothing but a lifeless corpse.

"—gon! Aegon!"

He came out of his thoughts to Cole shaking him by the shoulders roughly. The Queensguard sighed and took his hands off the young consort.

"She's fine. She awoke a few hours ago and wished to go somewhere." Aegon found himself growing angry.

"And you didn't accompany her?! Cole, she's injured! She could be killed right now!"

"I didn't realize you cared that much, husband."

But it wasn't Cole who said that.

Aegon stopped and took a few steps around Cole to see Valyria at the end of the hall. She was being followed by two handmaids and a knight.

In a flash, Aegon was running to her. When he finally reached her, he threw his arms around her in an embrace and drank in her presence. Without hesitation, she embraced him back and let out a sigh of relief.

"I missed you," Aegon murmured, and Valyria smiled as he pulled back and studied her face.

"I missed you too, Aegon. Now, why don't we go to our room, and you can tell me why my grandsire's model has been destroyed."

He couldn't help but wince.

But, instead of going to their room, Aegon led her to Aemond's room. He didn't tell her why, and she was obviously questioning it, but Aegon knew. He knew that Aemond would want to know as soon as Valyria awoke.
