i stare anxiously at my feet. this chair is very cold. it's very cold in general.
"you alright?" Jisoo whispers in my ear.

"i'm great. what do you think, idiot." i say, glaring at her jokingly.
she stifles a laugh.
"you could at least try to be happy. new recruits today!" i nod in acknowledgement.

Jisoo, all of the trainees and i are sitting in a dance practice room in uncomfortable black foldout chairs. today YG's bringing in some new girls that are here on "special circumstances."

"i have no time for this. we should be practicing." i say, staring down the length of a girl with long black hair, standing awkwardly in front of a projection.

"you should be grateful we aren't practicing, jen." jisoo whispers aggressively. i snigger.

"hi, my name is roseanne, but you can call me rosie." the girl blurts out.

oh wait, she didn't blurt it out, she was asked to introduce herself.

focus.

"thankyou, rosie. now i believe you're waiting on a... lisa... manobal?" the announcer questions, looking for the culprit.

a girl comes hurtling down the stairs. "it's pronounced manoban, and yes, i'm here." she says, dropping her bag and running to stand beside rosie.

"you're late." the announcer says blatantly.

"sorry sir, it won't happen again." she says confidently.

she doesn't look korean, but definitely asian.

it's harder to tell because she's bleached her hair a light blonde, which is not a natural colour for our culture. She has giant brown doe eyes, and a slim figure.
"she's very pretty." Jisoo whispers.
"mhm." i nod.

"presenting rosie and lisa, two very special trainees. i want you all to treat them with kindness, and welcome them into this studio. they have just moved from their old trainee company, and they are seeking better opportunities here." the announcer says, gesturing to the girls, who bow politely.

"you are dismissed."

"so. are you gonna stare at her the whole time or are you gonna talk to her?" jennie asks jisoo, stretching her leg over a bar.

jisoo chuckles.

"nah, it's not like that. i was just watching her technique. i'm not sure about her dancing, but she has a great voice." she says thoughtfully, referring to the dark-haired girl rehearsing.

"yeah, rosie seems like she has potential. remember, when you started dancing, you sucked as well..." jennie teases, bumping jisoo so she loses her balance and almost falls of the beam.

"you asshole. i tried." she whines.

jennie and jisoo warm up in silence for a couple more minutes until lisa walks onto the dance pad, and presses play on her phone, clearly connected to a speaker.

"lean on" by dj snake comes on, and she starts dancing.

she's better than rosie, for sure. in fact, she's probably better than jisoo.

jennie watches carefully as the girl pulls off a hard move, her blonde hair swaying, and grins.
looks like she's better than me as well.

the way her body moves is hypnotising, everything flows evenly to the music, and it's like she's not even trying. she's literally grinning.
she finishes with a flourish and bows. i start clapping, nudging jisoo to signal for her to do the same.
——————
jisoo's already warmed up to rosie, as it looks like the two are hitting it off, sitting and drinking some coffee during break. jennie spots a tall figure with long blonde hair standing at the salad bar.

there she is.

"you must be lisa." jennie says kindly, walking up beside the girl.

lisa smiles widely, and for the first time, jennie gets a good look at her face.

she has large brown doe eyes, and a cute button nose, smooth tanned skin and pearly teeth, her bleached hair falling down in waves.

"looks like i am. jennie, right?" she scrunches her nose, grinning as she holds out her hand.

"yep." jennie replies simply, shaking lisa's outstretched hand.

"you're quite the dancer, by the way." jennie says, referring to the girl's earlier performance.
lisa's eyes widen.

"you think so? well, i've been dancing since i was 4, so i hope so." she says nervously, checking the time on her phone quickly. "i haven't seen you yet, but i've heard good things. what position are you?" lisa asks, cocking her head slightly.

jennie chuckles, feeling embarrassed.
"people talk? jeez. well, i'm a rapper, and i'm okay at dancing." the shorter girl says casually. lisa hums in acknowledgment.
"that's so cool! i think i could be a rapper, but right now all people want me for is dancing, so i'll stick to that until i figure stuff out." she chuckles, silently thanking the cashier, and grabbing her salad from the pickup bench.

"do you need to be somewhere?" jennie asks.

lisa looks up at jennie from her hands. "uh, no, i think that's all they needed me for today." she adds, picking up her bag. "what about you?"

"i've just got training in the studio. if you're doing nothing, you could come watch? only if you want." jennie suggests, fiddling with the straps on her shirt. lisa grins.
"sounds like a solid plan to me."
