A beautiful lady was seen adoring the empty throne in her own mind. She was lost in her thoughts. She was now reminiscencing her own complains of her husband Karna. She told him it for thousand times that the duty and responsibility of this throne had been changing him day by day. He tried to resonate with her by telling that it was a natural thing. But she, in her early youth, never tried to realize or comprehend it. And now she herself had been understanding it when he was long gone. Let me introduce her to you all. She was Devi Padmavati, the adored yet loneliest first wife of Karna. Her Supriya had got hold of his devotion and loyalty. She was truly worshipped by him. Her Uru too had been loved and cared by him. As his long forgotten love of life. As the only crush of his life. That was the reason why the love stories of Supriya and Uruvi were of different types. Karna-Supriya love story was a pure and platonic one. Like that of a devotee and her deity. While Karna-Uruvi was immature and jealous One. Like that of two foolish lovers. The nature of Karna-Padmavati was an aloof yet tender, heartbreaking yet the most compassionate One. Like that of two playmates or friends. If we compare the three wives of Karna with three mates of Lord Krishna then Padma was his Rukshmini (his Shadow and inspiration), Supriya was his Meera (his devotee and worshipper) while Uruvi was his Radha (his lover and sunshine). By the way let's come back to the story again.
Padma was engrossed in her thoughts when she heard the voice of her new advisor cum Sakhi cum daughter-in-law in her eardrum
"Mate, main Soumya ko Gurukul pe bhejna chahti hoon. (Mother, I want to send Soumyo to Gurukul or the home of his teacher.)" [For Shalu, Her son was always Soumya.]
With a jolt Padma turned back. To face her daughter-in-law Shalu. What the hell she was talking about?!!! She had not a single idea of it!!!
She had recently came back from the border area inspection. So her attire was like a Queen. She had to show her strength to her masses. Not her own heartbroken state. The masses still in 3 yrs did neither forgot about Karna nor any of his dead wives or sons. All of them were still lamenting hard for the loss. Padma had noticed that in her own eyes. She did not want them to witness her lament or repent. As it would be harmful for the state and it's future. Vrishi was still immature. Jit was just a toddler. None of them were mature enough to be declared as the next King of Anga. She had to be rigid. She had to be strong. She had to look fierce. Even if people suspected about her loyalty to her beloved husband Karna. She did not care for it!!! Even a little bit!!! Only her open hair without any flower or ornament proved her widowhood!!!
