The chair for the President of Jung Empire remained vacant as other members of the board started taking their seats one by one. Taehyung gazed at the seat and thought how far they've come. His father is about to achieve his selfish dream and he couldn't help stop it. Rather he played like a dumb pawn who had no power. He wanted to give Yewon what she deserved but if he even tried Mooyoung would go one step ahead and unleash hell to get what he wants.
He felt a pat on his shoulder and it was Jongwon, his father's secretary. "Mr Kim are you alright?", he asked.
Taehyung turned and faced the man. He gave him a disappointed look, "I never understood why you joined my father. Why couldn't you see what a terrible person he is? He is robbing the Jung Family's basic rights and you, you're helping him. How much is he paying you for all this? How much money is enough to sell your own consciousness, Jongwon? You deceived the Jung Family by this marriage proposal and now everything is so messed up for them and for me. Why would you help my father in his worthless goals of ruining innocent people's lives?"
Jongwon didn't show any signs of remorse or try to explain anything. "Mr. Kim, in hunting, for a successful kill, the prey must feel like his life isn't in danger." And with that, he went on to take his seat around the round table.
Taehyung gave Jongwon's back a last hateful glare.
As everyone settled into their seats, the President's chair remained conspicuously vacant. Mooyoung's gaze lingered on the unoccupied seat, a sly smirk crossing his lips as he entertained ambitious thoughts of claiming it for himself. Yet, his reverie was abruptly interrupted by the entrance of Yewon, followed closely by Park Sehun. Yewon's attire, a pristine thigh-length skirt paired with a buttoned top from Dior, exuded elegance, though her demeanor betrayed a sense of resignation. Her hair cascaded freely around her face, a flawless frame for features marred by a blank expression, as if she had already accepted defeat.
Taehyung couldn't bear to see her wearing such a defeated look. Despite the chilliness that had developed between them since her father's accident, he longed to offer her solace. Respecting her boundaries, however, he restrained himself from any gesture she might not welcome.
Yewon's gaze, like Mooyoung's, drifted to the empty seat of the President, evoking a tidal wave of emotions. She couldn't help but mentally replay her father's missteps that had brought them to this pivotal moment. Yet, despite her inner turmoil, she couldn't summon hatred for the man who was no longer present to defend his actions. Swallowing back the tears threatening to spill, she took a deep breath and settled into her customary place beside the vacant seat, silently steeling herself for what lay ahead.
Taehyung, feeling drained by the weighty ambiance of the meeting room, discreetly tapped out a message to Jungkook.
"Hey, what time are you finishing work?"
Jungkook's prompt response arrived, "Probably around 11."
A faint smile crept onto Taehyung's face.
"Alright, what're you craving tonight?"
'𝘺𝘰𝘶'
Taehyung suppressed a chuckle at Jungkook's flirtatious reply. However, as the meeting commenced, he found himself unable to conjure a response, so he simply sent a heart emoji.
Jungkook swiftly pocketed his phone, smoothing away the grin that had momentarily crossed his face before turning his attention to the figure standing before him.
