I was sat in charms in my usual seat next to Tom Riddle when Snape came in.
"My apologies for the interruption but I need Sophia Nott to come with me and take all your belongings with you. Tom if you could keep notes and make sure she gets them." Tom nodded in agreement as I left the room I could see the worry on my brother Theos face. Was I in trouble? I haven't done anything as far as I'm aware. We walked to the headmasters office in silence. I must be in trouble if we are going to see Dumbledore. When we got to his office I saw Dumbledore, Magonigal and the minister. Well I'm definitely scared now.
"No need to worry Miss Nott your not in any trouble. We need your help with something. It's about Tom Riddle. We've been growing concerned with his behaviour recently and we have noticed he has started going down to the chamber of secrets and we are getting concerned that he might be planning to follow in his father's footsteps. We know Mattheo isn't capable of it but Tom is more powerful than his father was at this age. You are the most powerful young witch in the wizarding world. Your the only one who can help." I thought about it for a few minutes and realised this might be a way for me to finally get to know him. I've had a huge crush on him since I met him.
"Okay I'll do it." After confirming the details I left and went back to my dorm. I was doing my homework when I heard a knock at the door.
"Hey Tom what brings you here?"
"The notes for charm class" He handed me the notes, our fingers brushing against each other sending butterflies through my stomach and I'm sure I was probably blushing. "Thanks Tom." He smiled at me, he has a cute smile "anytime darling." He said as he left. Merlin I need a cold shower after that. I can't spy on him. I need to tell him the truth somehow. I know if I lie then he finds out the truth later he will hate me forever.
The next day I was sat outside sketching, I could see Tom sat under a tree reading a book. I couldn't help but stare until I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"Swooning over my brother again are you." Ugh how can Tom be so pleasant and Mattheo be so annoying. "Your one to talk considering all you do is follow my brother around, your glued to each other all day everyday." He smirked at me "well that's because he's my best friend. You just have a crush on my brother that will never amount to anything. I mean he's not capable of love, he's the cold hearted one and I'm not."
"Considering he's nice to me and your not, I think your the cold hearted one. Now please get lost. I'm sure your boyfriend is looking for you" He scowled at me and left. Ugh what an asshole.
The next day I noticed Tom head towards moaning Mertyls bathroom. I followed him and saw him disappear in to the chamber entrance so I followed him. Once we got down there I lost sight of him so I kept walking around until I ended up in the main chamber. After a few minutes I heard a rumble from behind me, I turned and saw a basilisk. How? Potter killed the basilisk in second year. I prepared myself for the eventuality of death. I closed my eyes then heard "DO NOT HARM HER!" Being shouted in parseltounge. It was Tom and how the hell did I just understand parseltounge. I felt a hand on my shoulder "you can open your eyes darling, he won't hurt you and neither will I." When I opened my eyes Tom was stood right in front of me with a huge basilisk behind him. I stared in shock at the huge snake until Tom moved my face so my eyes met his gaze. "Darling what are you doing down here. You could of been killed." I looked down at my feet realising that thought had never crossed my mind. I acted on impulse and it almost cost me my life. "I'm sorry Tom, I guess I never thought of the consequences. I'm scared you'll hate me if I tell you the truth." He put a finger under my chin and lifted it so our eyes met once again. "I could never hate you but the truth is always better than living a lie." I realised he was right so I took a deep breath and told him all about the day in the headmasters office. "Thank you for telling the truth and I'm glad you chose against spying. You told me the truth so now I shall do the same. I'm not trying to take over from my father. I come down here because its peaceful and quiet and because I care for the basilisk as well. I feel at home here." The way he spoke I knew he was truthful.
"What do I tell the headmaster?"
"Nothing yet. Now I have a proposal and you can say no if your not comfortable with it but to prove we trust each other completely we should use legilimency on each other, the ultimate trust. If you agree then I will go first." I thought about it and he was right. "Yeah I... I agree." He placed his hands on my cheek "Don't be scared darling, I'm the son of Voldemort so there is nothing I will see that will make me judge you or hate you." I smiled at him and placed my hand on top of his and leaned my face in to his hand. "Remember darling you really need to concentrate for this to work. I know your the most powerful witch of your age and you are more than capable of casting this spell but you must concentrate." I nodded as I prepared myself and with one concentrated deep breath I cast the spell.
I started to see Tom's childhood, the abuse he faced at the hands of Lucious Malfoy, the bullying he received from his brother and Draco because of the way he is. I saw a whole different side of him. I knew he was different but I never realised how different he truly was. I learned that he hates physical contact and that his biggest fear is his father. I then saw a fairly recent memory that included me. In the memory Tom was sat next to me in Transfigurations staring at me and I could hear his thoughts even though the me sat next to him couldn't.
