Shy (Mattheo's Version)

Me and my brother Theo are sat on the train in a compartment by ourselves. We don't sit with his friends or girlfriend on the train because its to much for me to handle. His friends are very loud, excitable and boisterous. I have noise cancelling ear muff I wear sometimes but even they don't help around his friends sometimes. I don't like his friends but I love his girlfriend Pansy. She's so understanding about how I am the way I am and how much Theo needs to be there for me, I rely on Theo so much.
I was sat sketching a picture of Pansy and Theo together, it was a gift for there anniversary next weekend. Theo was reading a book. We sat opposite each other in comfortable silence until the compartment door opened. Two boys who must be new came in.
"Mind if we join, everywhere is full" the curly haired one spoke.
"Yeah sure come in" I always let Theo talk. I don't talk very often. I only talk to Theo, Pansy and the teachers. The curly haired one sat next to me and the other one sat next to Theo. The one next to me had curly dark brown hair and brown eyes, he was incredibly handsome, the way his curls fell perfectly was captivating. The one next to Theo had dark brown wavy hair and brown eyes and was handsome but not as much as the other one. I didn't mind the curly one next to me because there was enough distance between us that I felt comfortable.
"I'm Mattheo Riddle and this is my older brother Tom"
"Ah Riddles, well that makes this easier. Were Notts. I'm Theo and that's my sister Sophia." Me and Theo both knew what was coming next so he grabbed my ear muffs out my bag and put them on me and I gave him a grateful smile. The new boys looked at him confused.
"They cancel out noise. She's really shy and sometimes when our father is mentioned it upsets her so just making sure she can't hear anything."
"We met your father so were not surprised. Horrible evil man."
"I guess evil fathers is something we have in common. It's his fault she's like this."
"I guess all four of us had a shit life so far."
Theo doesn't know I can read lips. Its both a blessing and a curse. At this point I kept my eyes down not wanting to know what else was said.
When we arrived I sat between Pansy and Theo in the great hall. I kept my ear muffs on. I always wore them in the great hall. The new boys were introduced and joined Slytherin. Mattheo was joining sixth year with us and Tom was joining seventh year. Again I lip read the conversation.
"Theo why does she even sit with us. She doesn't contribute anything to the conversation. It's pathetic" Mattheo smacked Malfoy on the head and I smiled at him. I didnt mean to, it just sort of happened. He smiled back then looked to Malfoy "You should count yourself lucky she can't hear you right now" only just met him and he's already sticking up for me. Theo looked like he wanted to kill Malfoy.
"Unfortunately for you I heard you. I'm going to make this very clear so pay attention. You ever say another word about my sister I will kill you and drop your dead body at your mother's feet. Is that clear." Malfoy gulped and nodded. Theo placed a note infront of me asking if I wanted to go with him to give the new boys a tour or go back with Pansy. I chose Pansy.  I was so done with people. Me and Pansy linked arms and walked back to Slytherin house. Once we got away from the noise of the great hall I took my ear muffs off and we chatted about the new boys or should I say Mattheo. Pansy saw us smiling at each other, as long as Theo didn't notice.
The first few weeks were dull and boring and nothing exciting happened. I was sat in the library waiting for Theo when Mattheo appeared. "Sorry to bother you Sophia but do you mind if I sit with you. There's no where else". I smiled at him and nodded. One thing I loved about the library is that I never need my ear muffs. I spend a lot of time here. "What you working on?" Mattheo has figured out I don't speak to anyone but Theo so he's being careful about how he talks to me. I showed him the picture of Hogwarts I was sketching. "Wow you are insanely talented that's amazing." I gave him a thankful smile. He reached in to his bag and takes out a book. He opened it up and placed it in front of me. "I sketch as well, not as good as you are though" I took a peice of paper out my notebook and wrote "You are really talented, don't be so hard on yourself I think your very skilled." I handed him the note and he smiled at me. "Thanks Sophia that means a lot" He put the note in his pocket and we both sat sketching until Theo arrived who was happy to see Mattheo sat with me. I hope I can learn to talk to Mattheo some day.
For the next few months I became more comfortable around Mattheo. He was so kind and patient about how I communicate. I was once again sat in the library waiting for Theo when Mattheo came and sat next to me. I was sketching again. Mattheo looked over at what I was doing. "You know Sophia it always amazes me how talented you are." Without even realising what I was doing I said "thank you". We both sat there in shock staring at each other. It was the first time Mattheo had ever heard me talk. "Sophia... you... spoke... to me. I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks Mattheo, It just sort of happened. I knew it would one day" now that I had started talking to him I felt even more comfortable with him. "Well you have a lovely voice. I'm really proud of you. I know it was a hard thing to do. You should be proud of yourself" I smiled at him and blushed which he noticed. "Thanks for being so understanding and patient about everything. Not many people would bother putting in the effort"
"You don't need to thank me. Your worth it princess." I blushed even more. "I like the nickname" He was now blushing as he smiled at me. "Well it's the only thing I will call you from now on." I hadn't realised Theo had just walked in when I replied to Mattheo. "Well I'm glad and Theo can keep his over protective mouth shut because I like it." Mattheo chuckled then we both heard an excited Theo. "Sophia you just spoke. You said words to Mattheo. I'm so proud of you." He exclaimed as he hug me tightly. "Thanks Theo."
"You know what screw the studying let's raid the kitchen and celebrate." Me and Mattheo both agreed. The three of us raided the kitchen then headed back to Slytherin house. The others were all sat in the common room. "What's with all the food?"
"Were celebrating, Sophia spoke to Mattheo" Theo said proudly. Pansy rushed up to hug me "Sophia that's amazing I'm so proud of you." Tom gave me a smile "Congratulations Sophia" I gave him a thankful smile.  The others in the group didn't care that much. Me, Theo, Mattheo and Pansy headed to my room and had a little party.
A few weeks later I was sat in the courtyard reading when Mattheo sat next to me. "Hey princess can I ask you something?"
"Yeah of course" He looked nervous. "I was wondering if you would like to go on a date with me" I thought I was dreaming, this can't be real. "Yes I would love to."
The next evening I had just finished getting ready when he arrived holding a bunch of gold coloured roses. "Mattheo there beautiful thank you." They looked really expensive. I put them in a vase on my desk and smiled as he held his arm out for me. I happily linked my arm with his and we headed to the Astronomy Tower where he had fairy lights and a picnic set up. "Mattheo this is amazing, no way you got rainbow chocolate chip cookies, there my favourite how did you know?"
"A little birdie may have told me". We had the most amazing night. The night ended with Mattheo taking my hand and walking me to my dorm. "Can I give you a hug?" I nodded and smiled as I walked in to his arms. He kissed me on the head "I had an amazing time with you, sweet dreams princess." I went in my room flopped on to my bed and slept with a huge smile. 
A few days later we were coming to the end of our second date.
"Princess I don't ever want this to end" He said as he took one of my hands in his. "Neither do I"  I respoded with a smile. He put his other hand on my cheek and I already had my other one on his chest. "Sophia I really don't ever want this to end. Will you be my girlfriend?" I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him as I said "yes yes yes I will." He held me tightly as we hugged. After a few minutes he pulled away a little and moved my chin so our eyes were locked, our mouths inches apart. It was so natural as our lips met, kissing each other through the smile we both struggled to contain. Our tongues had now collided and moved in perfect harmony. We kissed until we were both out of breathe. "Princess you have no idea how long I have wanted to do that for. I chucked at him as I lay my head on his chest, he kissed the top of my head and then laid his head on top mine.
After a while we headed back and were met with the others in the common room. Were hand in hand as Mattheo kept me close to him. The others were all shocked apart from Theo. "So mate I take it she said yes" Mattheo wrapped his arms around me from behind and kissed my neck "she said yes". I gave Theo a questioning look "Yes Sophia I knew. You didn't think I was going to let him anywhere near you with out my permission did you." I rolled my eyes and smiled at him. As always Malfoy had something to say. "So the pathetic lonely mute got herself a boyfriend then" without even thinking I looked him dead in the eyes "you call me lonely yet your still single. Aww sucks to be you ferret boy". Everyone looked at me in shock and that's when I realised that I just spoke infront of everyone for the first time. Mattheo kissed me and with a proud smile said "that's my girl". Theo had a little tear in his eye, I went up to him and hugged him "You know sis I hate the fact that your getting so independent because I know it means one day you wont need me anymore but I'm so so proud of you for how far you've come." I hugged him even tighter "Theo don't talk rubbish, I will always need you. Were twins remember, were a package deal, I will always want my over protective brother by my side."
That weekend we had a little party down by the Black lake to celebrate me talking in front of everyone. With Mattheo's help I became more confident in talking to people more. On the last night at hogwarts at the end of our seventh year we were out star gazing at the black lake when just as we were going to leave he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes.

"Well my little love that's the story. That's how I met your father." I said to our seven year old daughter Skye
"That was amazing mummy. Daddy was so in love with you wasn't he."
"I still am my little princess" Mattheo said as he walked in the room holding our six year old son Taylor in his arms. "Taylor is a big brave boy. He just gave auntie Pansy a hug for the first time" I rushed to my son and scooped him in to my arms.
"Taylor I'm so proud of you. That was so brave. Let's have a little party."
We raised our children to celebrate the small things because sometimes something small could be the thing that changes your life, like me speaking to Mattheo for the first time.
As Mattheo, Skye and Taylor raided the kitchen for party food I looked on the wall at the framed note that I wrote Mattheo all those years ago in the library during our first encounter alone. Our story started with that note and Mattheo kept it as a reminder of how far I've come.
