Sophia Nott was on the train back to Hogwarts trying and failing to hold back tears. She hates the end of summer break because it means she has to bid farewell to her brother Theo. The two are very close but he attends Durmstrang so they only see each other during summer break and holidays. She was walking through the train wiping tears from her eyes when she walked in to her bully Mattheo Riddle and his friends. "Wow Nott crying already and I haven't even done anything yet." All his friends laughed. She tried to move past him but he blocked her. She dug her wand in to his neck "Riddle I am not in the mood just move." He stepped closer to her "are you gonna cry again little loner." More laughter. She tried to swallow the growing lump in her throat and was close to tears when Adrian a Slytherin prefect arrived "get lost Riddle, leave her alone or I'll give you a detention." Not wanting to earn a detention before even arriving at the school Mattheo gave up and left. "Soph are you okay, it was a hard goodbye wasn't it?" She nodded so Adrian took her hand and found an empty compartment. He sat and comforted her and talked with her until she felt better. Adrian is a friend of her brothers so he watches over her and manages to stop Mattheo and his friends physically harming her but sadly nothing can stop the verbal insults. The train arrived and they walked up to the school together "Why don't you sit with me and my friends, you know they love you." She smiled and agreed. She has the protection of all the Slytherin prefects thanks to Adrian as well as Adrian's friends who despise Mattheo.
After the feast Adrian was informed that Sophia would have to share with a boy due to a mix-up. After convincing him she would be fine she headed off to her dorm.
When she arrived she was the first one there so she started unpacking. She went in the bathroom to put stuff away and while she was in there she heard the bedroom door open and close. They tried to insult her and upset her but what happened this morning gave her a much needed confidence boost so she quickly told them where to go. They were even more shocked when later that evening Mattheo told his friends that Sophia was off limits and he wouldn't share the reason why.
That night he ended up being plagued with nightmares as his guilty conscience haunted him. Sophia was woken up in the middle of the night by Mattheo saying "I'm sorry Sophia please forgive me" over and over again. The more he said it the more he thrashed around. She got up and sat next to him placing one hand on his face and the other on his chest, she gently stroked his cheek "mattheo wake up, its just a bad dream, all you have to do to stop it is wake up." She had learned from helping her brother that shaking him awake will only scare him so she's trying to wake him up calmly. "Mattheo it's okay I'm here don't be scared I'm here for you." He wiped away a few tears "sorry I woke you up, what you said about your mother dying made me realise I had done to you what everyone does to me, I judged you without knowing anything about you. I always assumed you had the perfect family life." She looked down and paused for a minute. "Six years ago my father killed my mother while she was trying to protect me and my brother. My father's in Azkaban now, it's just me and Theo now. He's the only family I have left." He held her tightly to his chest "so who's been taking care of you guys for the last six years?" She looked him in the eyes "no one. We've been taking care of each other since we were twelve, the house elves helped but apart from that we've been alone." He let a few tears fall as he realised he had made her already hard life ten times worse by bullying her. "Sophia I am so sorry, merlin I really fucked up." She laid her head down on his chest and tried to blink away the tears. "You can stop apologising Mattheo." He knew she was crying so he lay down on the bed keeping her on top him. He rubbed circles round her back "you don't have to be brave anymore Soph, let the tears out." She tried to stop it but it was useless. She lay curled up on top of him crying her eyes dry. The two ended up falling asleep together and every night for the next six weeks they slept in the same bed. Neither of them could figure out why but they both preferred to be physically connected to each other but were keeping things a secret from there friends.

Theo cleared his throat snapping the couple back to reality "since when has this been a thing?" Theo asked. "Since last night" Mattheo replied with a beaming smile.

Thanks to one little dorm room mix-up the two waring groups of Slytherin were finally united.
