Chapter 28
You need to Calm Down
Arjun
Nobody warned me earlier that Adira in a saree was like unleashing a beauty missile and I couldn’t escape its impact.
The morning sun casted a soft yellow glow over the courtyard of the haveli, illuminating the black and white checkered marble floor beneath my feet. I leaned against a sandstone pillar with intricate carvings. With a crisp apple in hand, I observed the scene before me.
Ayan's voice was firm and assertive as he scolded a vendor over the phone, his mother's demands for more gold in the decorations clearly not being met to her satisfaction. A sense of urgency was there as everyone worked to ensure that every detail was perfect for the upcoming celebration. Even Viraj, who was usually laid-back, was engaged in discussions with the managers, overseeing the preparations for the D-day.
Amidst the organized chaos, my attention was fixated on Adira. She moved gracefully, a vision in her satin georgette saree that transitioned from shades of deep blue to a lighter hue, reflecting the changing colors of the sky at dawn. The oxidized jewelry complimenting her traditional look, and her sleeveless blouse, tied with two knots at the back, revealed the delicate curve of her shoulder and her smooth skin.
She deftly handled a basket of items, her movements purposeful and efficient. She seamlessly coordinated tasks, and perfectly acted as a puppet of Ayan's mother since yesterday, making sure every detail was attended to.
She was achingly beautiful, a sight to behold. I felt my heart race and my thoughts grow hazy. The way the morning light played on her features, the determination in her eyes, and the way she effortlessly carried herself. It was all too much to resist.
I stood there, leaning against that pillar, I knew that I was utterly captivated, unable to escape the spell she had cast over me, but suddenly felt a strong tug on my arm.
My eyes widened in surprise as Kavya pulled me to a corner, her face serious. "Are you seriously fucking Adira?" she asked, her tone incredulous.
I chuckled at Kavya's directness. "Did Viraj mention anything?," I replied, trying to keep my voice calm.
Kavya shook her head, looking concerned. "Viraj tells me everything," she said, emphasizing the 'everything' for effect.
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, did he now?" I said, trying not to let the nerves show.
Kavya crossed her arms, her expression a mix of concern and amusement. "Yes, he did. And I have to say, I never saw this coming," she admitted.
I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "Well, sometimes life surprises you," he said.
Kavya gave him a playful punch on the arm. "You've lost your fucking mind, you know that, right? This will fucking break our friendship." she exclaimed.
