Chapter 30
"Slut!"
Arjun
"What's a perfect function without a dance performance, guys?" Kavya chimed in. This was the last thing we needed.
Kavya choreographed a Bollywood dance routine for the aunties, and then she wanted us to join in as well.
"Come on, Arjun, don't just stand there like a statue," Kavya teased, dragging me into the makeshift dance practice area. "You too, Adira. It's our night, and we're going to rock this dance floor!"
I exchanged a quick glance with Adira, who chuckled and rolled her eyes at Kavya's enthusiasm. As much as I loved dancing with Adira, the thought of performing in front of a crowd was a tad daunting. But Kavya had a way of making even the most reluctant participants join in.
"Why don't you dance with your husband?" I said to Kavya.
"Well, we all know Viraj is a terrible dancer, and Ayan will be too busy playing the host that night. So it all comes down to you," Kavya replied.
"Hey, I am sitting right here," Viraj interjected.
"That doesn't make you a better dancer," Kavya quipped.
"Ok, fine, but don't you dare involve your pathetic playlist in this," I said.
I reluctantly joined the group, feeling a bit self-conscious among the aunties who were energetically following Kavya's instructions. Adira's laughter mingled with the music, and I smiled at her as we tried to mimic the dance steps.
Despite the whole fiasco at the courtyard, Adira and Ayan were now sitting with the event planner, discussing everything, completing each other's sentences and solving problems as it was just a normal day. I always wondered that if Ayan hadn't cheated, what a loving couple they would have been. And I would just be nursing my wounds and heart.
Kavya's voice brought me back to the present as she demonstrated a particularly tricky step. "Come on, Arjun, you can do it! Just let go and enjoy the moment."
I struggled through the dance steps among the aunties, Adira was thoroughly enjoying herself, watching me squirm and fight for space. Kavya was leading the group with finesse, showing off her teaching skills.
Viraj had his iPhone out, recording the entire spectacle. Ayan even took a break from his hosting duties to whistle and cheer me on, clearly relishing my embarrassment. "Aww, Arjun, you look gorgeous," he teased.
Even Adira couldn't resist capturing the moment on her phone. Her laughter was like music to my ears, soothing and uplifting my spirits.
"You're having a bit too much fun, aren't you? Why don't you join in, Adira?" I quipped, hands on my waist, trying to catch my breath.
