Chapter 36
Midnight Rain
Adira
I needed to find Arjun, but my calls were going unanswered after the dramatic events of yesterday. Ayan's revelation and the subsequent confrontation had left my mind in a state of chaos. My thoughts were a jumble of confusion and anxiety, and I needed to talk to Arjun to sort through it all.
But as I approached the scene, my heart sank at the sight before me. Ayan and Arjun were engaged in a heated exchange, their voices raised and their fists flying. Fear gripped me instantly – could Ayan have discovered our secret? Was that why they were fighting so fiercely?
Listening to their conversation only confirmed my fears, and without hesitation, I stepped in to intervene. Thankfully, my presence seemed to calm the storm, and Ayan, along with the others, eventually backed away from the wrathful confrontation.
I needed to clear my mind, to escape the weight of the situation that had unfolded. Stepping outside, I found myself immersed in my thoughts, trying to process the events that had transpired.
The bitter reality was undeniable – Arjun and Ayan were lifelong friends, and now they were engaged in a terrible conflict. A friendship torn by my selfish actions and decisions. The guilt gnawed at me as I grappled with the repercussions of my choices.
"Adira," he began, his voice filled with regret. "I'm so sorry. I never meant for things to escalate like this."
The rain continued to pour down upon us. I turned to Arjun, desperation etched across my face. "Arjun, how did he find out?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Arjun's expression was a mixture of regret and frustration. "He saw my phone's home screen and your texts," he admitted, his tone heavy with remorse. "It wasn't supposed to happen this way."
I tried to process the information, the reality of the situation hitting me like a tidal wave. My heart raced, and a feeling of helplessness washed over me.
Ayan knew about me and Arjun, and he discovered it in the worst possible manner. However, I needed to address that later. What troubled me more were the fragments of their argument that I overheard.
"Arjun, I don't want to believe it," I admitted, uncertainty in my voice, "But what Ayan said about you and Esha, and how you might be using me as revenge against him... It's just too much to ignore."
Arjun's earnest eyes locked onto mine, sincerity shining through. "Adira, I couldn't even fathom thinking of you in that way. You mean the world to me. I would never use you like that. Please, believe me."
"I want to, but I can't," I confessed.
"Then I'll do anything to make you believe in how much I love you. To show you that what I feel for you is genuine," he said, gently placing my hand on his beating heart.
