Chapter 10

DANCING WITH OUR HANDS TIED

ARJUN

A distant murmur of voices reached my ears, and my attention was immediately drawn to the heated exchange between Ayan and Adira. Curiosity getting the better of me, I stayed hidden in the shadows, listening intently to their argument.

Adira's voice trembled as she confronted Ayan about his closeness to Esha. Her words were filled with a mix of frustration and longing. My heart sank as I witnessed the unfolding scene, the raw vulnerability and pain etched on Adira's face.

“I'm sorry, Adira. I never meant to make you feel that way. “

“I didn't realize how much it bothered me until now. I want to be a part of your world, Ayan. Ever since the beginning of this trip, have you even asked me how I am doing? ”

“You seemed perfectly fine, laughing and enjoying yourself with everyone else.  I thought you were having a good time too.”

” It's not about that, Ayan. It's about wanting to feel like your priority, to have moments where it's just you and me, and not her.”

“We've been together, Adira. I can't constantly read your mind. If you needed more, you should have told me.”

“I thought you knew me well enough to understand what I need. I am done trying. Done being the only one here.”

“I didn't realize... “

“I can’t sleep here tonight. I am leaving. I will find some place elsewhere.”

“Adira, wait!”

I saw Adira, stepping out of their room with a devastated face, her tears dried up. With a heavy heart, I retreated from my hidden vantage point, their argument still lingering in my mind. In that moment, I vowed to be a steadfast presence for Adira, to lend a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on, even if it meant witnessing my own pain.

As we entered the club, the thumping bass and swirling lights engulfed the atmosphere. Ayan, Viraj, and I had planned a boys' night out earlier. With Ayan and Adira’s fight, I thought it would stand cancelled but Viraj insisted that Ayan could use some much-needed distraction.

The club's interior was adorned with sleek decor, reflecting a modern and chic ambiance. The walls shimmered with a combination of mirrors and metallic accents. The bar, lined with bottles of various spirits. As the night unfolded, the DJ spun tracks and people danced with freedom, their bodies swaying and grooving to the music. I looked around, taking in the sights and sounds, but something caught my attention.

It was understatement to say that I was shocked.

What the fuck was she doing here? That too with Kavya.
