Chapter 22
Illicit affairs
ARJUN
"Your husband is going to kill me someday."
"It wasn't my fault that you didn't see their video chat request earlier," Adira chuckled.
Last night, Adira and I were talking on the phone. I had lost track of time, like always. Her voice was a soothing melody that kept me engaged. Little did I realize Ayan had been trying to reach me for a video call. When I heard him entering her room, I hung up the call and quickly joined the video chat with the rest of my friends.
As I settled into the conversation, I felt a little flustered. I hoped that Ayan hadn't noticed anything unusual in my demeanor during the video chat.
I did my best to participate in Ayan's issues, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Adira.
I couldn't help but smile, "You know, I can't resist you, Hazelnut," I replied with a soft chuckle, my heart fluttering at the thought of our late-night talks.
Despite the distance that separated us, Adira and I remained inseparable. Late-night talks, endless chats, and video calls bridged the gap between Mumbai and Delhi, creating a virtual world for the past one month, where our love flourished.
When I settled into my lunch break, my phone buzzed with Adira's call. It had become our daily routine to share everything and anything during our breaks at the office. We used to talk about our day, sharing little moments and updates.
I have practically turned out into one of my worst nightmares- a simpering lovelorn fool.
"How was your day so far?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine interest.
"Usual," I replied, "Just some regular work stuff. I have a client meeting in the next hour."
"Oh, you should be preparing for that then," she suggested, her concern for me evident even through the phone.
I chuckled, feeling a surge of confidence. "Nah, I'm a natural at this. I don't need notes or anything," I boasted playfully.
Adira laughed, her laughter like music to my ears. "Oh, really? Mr. Natural," she teased, "Arjun, you're really going into that meeting unprepared?"
I grinned. "Oh, I have priorities alright," I playfully retorted, I could practically visualize her raising an eyebrow.
"Priorities huh? And what would those be?" she asked, feigning curiosity.
"Definitely not the Orange Chicken takeout in front of me.," I replied, emphasizing the last part. "You, of course. Talking to you is always my top priority. "
"You really know how to say the right things," she remarked, a hint of sentimentality in her voice.
"Only when it comes to you. Besides, I know you love it ," I admitted, feeling my heart swell with love for her. I could sense her being flushed.
