I lied in my bed, staring at the high ceiling about me.
Nothing roamed the air but silence.
My mother walked into my bedroom. She hadn't known about what was going on between Nelson and I in the past two days. "Avery, sweetie."
"Hey, mom," My back faced her. I didn't want her to see my dried up tears. Her heart would shatter if she saw me crying. "What are we eating for dinner?"
"Well tonight we're having dinner with the Neumann's."
"What?" I quickly turned my back.
"What do you mean what?-" She saw them. She saw my tears strolling down my cheeks. "Sweetheart, are you crying?"
"Kind of." I looked down. "What's wrong? What happened?"
"I- Nelson-" I didn't know how to tell her. "Nelson and I are on- on a break right now."
My mother gasped, "Avery, honey." She said in devastation. "Mom, I couldn't be any worse.. and now I have to see him?" I turned my back. "I can't uninvite them. That's rude."
"Do I have to go?" I asked. "Yes, of course. Honey, if you two maybe talk-"
"Yes, mom. I know. I told him we can talk about it some other day."

I was at my fucking worst.
Noah walked into my bedroom, spotting me asleep with my hood on. "Sheesh, this place is a mess." Noah looked around. He hadn't known about anything other than the Instagram post.
"Nelson." Noah shook me. "Go away." I put the heavy, white duvet over my head. "Mom wanted me to tell you that us and the Leanne's are going to dinner tonight."
"What? Why?" I ripped the blanket off my head.
"I don't know.. but you been alright lately, bro?" Noah asked. I sighed and then said, "We're on a break right now, bro. Avery and I."
"Damn." Noah widened his eyes to the floor.
He looked back to me, "Are you going to talk to her?"
"I don't know. She said we'll talk someday. Probably at the dinner or something." I shrugged it off.

Asher, our parents, and I walked into the private dinning area the hostess had led the four of us into. The waitress came towards our table, "Hi! My name is Katie and I will be serving you guys today. What would you y'all like as a beverage?"
"Iced tea, please." My mother said.
"Pink lemonade, please." I smiled.
A fake one, I still wasn't fully recovered after everything. Asher looked over to me after ordering his drink. "Have you been okay, lately?" He got my full attention.
Did he know about everything?
"Mhm." I nodded, going back on my phone to scroll through TikTok.
The Neumann's walked into the room and my heart dropped.
Nelson's here.
My family members stood up from their seats to greet them. Noah moved out of the way to hug someone, revealing Nelson and I standing in front of each- other.
"Hey."
"Hey." I bit my cheek and side hugged Nelson.
"If you're ready.. can we talk? Please." He asked me.
"After dinner."
"Yes, ma'am." He shut his eyes and nodded.
The last thing he would want to do is make me feel uncomfortable. I'm glad he asked but phew, I need at least another hour or so.
After both families finished eating, My mother gathered everyone's attention. "Okay so. I invited you all here today because Roger and I have a special announcement to make!"
"I'm pregnant!"
Everyone gasped with joy, hugging and congratulating my parents.
Regarding everything that has happened between Nelson and I, he still congratulated me, of course. "Congratulations, Avery," He smiled. "Thank you, Nelson." I welcomed him into a hug. "You are going to be a great big sister."
I nearly tried not to cry on the spot from the words he just spoke of.
"Congratulations Amy!" Cassie and Spencer hugged my mother. "Have you guys thought of any names yet?"
"Yes! for a girl maybe Naomi but we don't know yet!"
"That's adorable!" Cassie smiled.

"Avery," I heard Nelson's voice and turned around. "I know you hate me but,"
"Nels, I don't hate you." I said, honestly.
"You- you don't?"
"Never that."
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry for putting you through all that stress. What I told you was the truth and you need to believe me, please." He begged. "I believe you. Trust me. One hundred percent." I held his hand. "Thank you." He hugged me, his head in the crook of my neck.
God, I missed this.
Him.
