- Esmeralda was turned into a vampire after dying by hanging; It had been discovered that she was witch and thus she faced the same fate that all the witches faced by the hands of the then King. Esmeralda was hung shamelessly in front of the public, but died with Kol's blood in her system. Fortunately for her, she had injured herself pretty bad days prior to begin found out and Kol begin the overprotective friend that he is had made her drink his blood to help her healing process. She didn't wake from her transition till two days later where she was begin held in her family's burial vault.
- Esmeralda has a sire bond to Kol. This is due to the both them having strong and passionate feelings for each other upon her begin turned into a vampire. There relationship did have some strain in the beginning of their relationship as Esmeralda had to sort out if her loyalty and genuine emotion were true or just some sort of influence of the sire bond. She knows now that her feelings are truly her own now and they both tend to actually embrace the sire bonded instead of trying to act like it's not there or wanting to break it. Which, contrary to popular belief, Esmeralda is not the only one that bonded. Kol is just as bond to her as she is with him. Kol absolutely loves Esmeralda and is highly overprotective of her. Kol wants to do anything and everything to keep his wife happy just as she does with him. It's to the point that Niklaus would teasingly say that Esmeralda had bewitched his half brother.
