Rhaenyra stared at Alicent for a good five seconds before sighing on her seat. "I suppose I pray your son good fortune in the future, your grace. Once again." She looked away.Alicent's lip slightly parted before looking down on her lap quite nervously. Rhaenyra caught this sight from her peripheral vision but paid no attention to it. If she's being honest with herself, she does not even know why she's still sitting there in front of the queen. The two of them, alone.
After a few seconds of silence, Rhaenyra turned her head back towards the queen's direction, yet not looking at her, she spoke forcefully. "So how was it?"
The question made Alicent snap her head towards the princess with a puzzled look, she furrowed her eyebrows, "How was what?"
The princess sighed and looked away quite awkwardly, not wanting to meet her step-mother's eyes. She pressed her lips into a thin line, exhaling heavily. It took her a moment before replying, "The bedding." Her mind doesn't know why, so does her heart that wasn't sure if it was numb enough or if it is aching— should it be?
Alicent raised her brows in surprise, Is she seriously asking me about the king's and I's— Alicent snapped out of her thoughts when she realized that those purple orbs of Rhaenyra are already landed on hers, waiting for her to answer. "I find it strange that you're asking me this."
"Who am I supposed to ask then? The king?" Rhaenyra scoffed humorless while shaking her head
"No. I— why would you ask that?" Alicent looked away. When Rhaenyra didn't respond— Alicent was contemplating at that moment. She rubbed her arm before sighing, answering, "The king and I..." She paused, hesitant. This is the part when Rhaenyra's surrounding went awfully quiet as she awaits for her step-mother's answer.
"The king and I didn't do it."
And that was that. Where she had finally felt her heart beat. It thumped loudly that it made her chest ache. She didn't know why she was expecting still. She shouldn't, but she somehow managed to. Her lips parted slightly and her body raised a little at the answer. When Alicent's eyes met hers, she tensed.
"Oh..." Was all the silver head could reply. Her eyes landed on the floor, a sudden adrenaline rush came over her that she tries to prevent her legs from bouncing while playing the rings on her hand that rests above her lap.
"Well... we did... but.." Rhaenyra's movement slowed down at the words of the queen, "But he didn't finish.." Alicent completed, heads down in shame of their choice of discussion.
The queen watched her step-daughter through her lashes, inhaling a sharp breath before speaking again, "Well, now that you know— it's only best to be fair. Where have you gone after the council chambers?" She said, trying to change the topic.
The awkward silence wrapped them entirely, making the atmosphere so suffocating. It made her nervous when Rhaenyra was taking too long to reply. Too long for the queen's liking.
The birds chirping up above them sang, "What happened?" The silver head asked as she ignored the queen's question, hoping for a specific answer.
Alicent licked her lips before sighing in silent frustration. Wanting to end the conversation if they were only just to talk about her and her husband's sex. "Because of the king's condition, Rhaenyra."
The princess raised her brows before looking back to her hand on her lap. Disappointment filled her mind when the expected answer she was hoping for turns out to be another. She wanted to feel and know her value to the queen. She wanted the queen to say that it's because she simply could not take to have the king instead of her— tho that would be impossible.
