You Only Live Once

CHAPTER 17

About an hour later Theo's parents requested his presence so they could talk business with some of their 'colleagues' . Before he left he whispered an 'I can't come back to you' to which she had no time to reply. So when Regulus found her just a little while later, she was sitting alone, miserably looking at the grass around her heels.

"You could come back inside you know" Regulus informed her, a sense of annoyance in his voice.

"Really? I didn't know. Thank you , Reg, for this life changing information" she replied, feigning admiration.

"For being such a little shit, I'm gonna keep you some company" he announced taking the seat that Theo was previously sat,next to her on the grass. Mira just shook her head and returned to whatever she was doing before he interrupted her. Mira and Regulus couldn't stop bickering since their little trip to Hogsmeade. If they were in a room together it would never be silent. Pandora actually started to call them 'sassy monsters' and would proceed to leave the room when Mira or Regulus even uttered a word to each other. Even if it was to pass the salt. Mira had only known comfortable silence with a few people and Regulus Black certainly wasn't one of them. So when he just stood there ,next to her in the garden on the night of Christmas' Eve, she couldn't help but wonder if Christmas miracles did exist. When she slowly turned her head to see what made him so silent, she found him already looking at her with a sad expression, which quickly changed when he noticed her raised eyebrows.

"I'm just thinking of the best way to tell you" he explained with a shrug, before he turned his attention to the night sky.

"Tell me what?" Mira questioned curiously. Seeing as he was refusing to look or answer her, Mira took a hold of her dress and moved her knees so she was right in front of him. "Tell me what, Reg?" she repeated. This time he looked at her and sighed.

"You know he's engaged right? He'll get married the moment he's out of school. You're wasting your time" he informed her. But Mira already knew that and she found it convenient. There would be not future expectations, not with his marriage already in the works. What she didn't understand was why Regulus was so annoyed by it,that he had to say it the way he did. "Of course, you knew" he scoffed before standing up and walking away from her.

"You're the only one that should've guessed I knew it ,Regulus. You know I know everything. So why are you being such a baby about it?" Mira spat angrily, standing up as well.

"You're gonna get hurt!"

"Oh , please! Regulus, I started going out with Theo because I knew it wouldn't last, because I knew it would mean nothing!" she confessed, making Regulus' expression turn into one of disbelief. Until he started laughing uncontrollably. He was laughing so hard , he had to take a hold of the nearest wall to support himself.

"And they wonder why you were sorted into Slytherin" he said between laughs,making Mira angrier by the second. She advanced towards him and once she was close enough she started hitting his arm repeatedly, telling him to stop it. The laughing and hitting wouldn't have stopped if a blonde girl hadn't made an appearance at the top of the stairs that led to the garden.

"She's all yours" Regulus said to the girl, patting Mira's cheek before he went up the stairs, his laughing not dying down just yet. Mira's face was almost red from how angry she was. And she was furious. The boy didn't seem able to hold a serious conversation to save his life. How he would be able to figure out everything about Voldemort's plans in the future, Mira couldn't tell.

"Has he always been a git?" Mira asked absentmindedly , still looking at the spot Regulus had been before he dissapeared.

"He's a Black, he can't help it" the blonde replied with a laugh, moving closer to Mira.

"Tell me about it" she whispered underneath her breath, thinking of Sirius. The blonde laughed once more, finally catching Mira's full attention. She hadn't seen her face well before but now that she was, she realise she had seen her at Hogwarts.

"I see why he likes you" the blonde sent Mira a sweet smile.

"Right, you're on of Theo's friends" Mira remembered that one time she had seen them together at the three broomsticks when she went with Regulus.

"I'm Christina but you can call me Christie "

"I'm Mira" the two girls shook hands with smiles on their faces, despite the circumstances. "Wait are you Christina Fenwick?"

"Why ,yes. How did you know?" Because she was Theodore Nott Jr's mother. Or she would be for the matter . Because her and the current Theodore would have a child and they would get married and she would die. And Mira knew about it all but she couldn't say anything about it.

"We both go to Hogwarts, remember?" she said instead.

"Look Mira, I really need to ask you a favor" Christina blurted out , looking nervous. Mira just nodded her head, hesitantly. "Me and Theo have no choice but to get married. But we'll never be able to fall in love with each other. Don't get me wrong, I love the kid. I've known him since I was born. But Mira, if we ever have the honor to fall in love it will be now. It's kind of a now or never situation for us. Theo has had many girls before. Many were obsessed with him but he couldn't feel a thing. But now it's different. With you it's different. And I know it's scary and all but please, please, please, take good care of him as long as you have him. Because you have him Mira. Since the very first moment he saw you ,he came running to me ,to tell about the most beautiful girl he had ever seen." Mira was in a state of shock, much like she had been last night with Barty but this time she couldn't let the fear take over.

"Why can't you fall in love?" she asked instead of starting to panic like she wanted to do at the moment.

"Let' just say... I don't swing that way and Theo knows" Chrissy explained and Mira realised in a second. "So...do you promise?"

"I'll do my best"
