You Only Live Once

CHAPTER 47

October 31st 1981. 11:57 p.m. James Potter spend those last few minutes of Halloween with his family in their kitchen . His baby son, Harry ,had stayed up longer than usual and simply refused to go to sleep. So he was currently sitting on his high chair playing with some bubbles his parents had conjured to keep him busy. His beautiful wife Lily, was writing a letter to their friend Remus, just to let him and Sirius know they were okay. They hadn't had the chance to see each other much the past few months because it would simply be reckless to do so. And with the disappearance of a person they loved so much they were trying to be as cautious as ever, while searching for her everywhere. Suddenly the quiet of the evening was interrupted by a loud sound coming from outside. Lily took a hold of Harry and James run to the door ,his wife and son hot on his tail. He didn't open the door immediately ,instead he took a look outside the window next to it. Lily followed his steps. All he could see was four figures on the floor, hugging each other outside their house . They couldn't understand who it was ,they didn't recognise any of them at first. James gasped loudly before unlocking the front door and running to the people outside. Lily screaming behind him ,trying to calm him down. She had no idea who these people were and was afraid James would get hurt.
"Rosie..." James whispered her name and finally after so many months he could finally breathe again.
"Jamie, it's over " was all she managed to utter before her eyes gave out and she fell unconscious to the floor in the arms of Regulus. James rushed to her side and took a hold of her hands searching for a pulse .To say he was relieved when he found one would be an understatement. He looked at the three boys surrounding his sister with worry in his eyes searching for an answer.
"She's weak. We should get her to St. Mungos" Regulus said when his eyes locked with James' . James immediately understood and nodded his head . That's when he stood up making the other three boys do the same.
"You get her there . I'll contact everyone else and we'll all be there in no time" the three boys nodded and apparated immediately to the hospital while James run to the front door of his house and hugged his wife and son tightly.
"She's back. Everything will be okay"

That white bright ceiling was too familiar. She had seen it before. It was the first thing she saw once she opened her eyes. She had no idea of how long she had been out. She also had no idea who was there, but she couldn't speak. She didn't have the strength to .
"It is pretty bright in here" a voice sounded from the entrance of the door. She didn't even need to turn her head to know who it was , despite not having heard his voice in so long.
"Get out of my head , Black" she answered, faking annoyance. That's when she turned her head to give him a smile, only to see him leaning on the door frame , a smile already in his face. He took slow steps towards her bed and took a hold of her hands as soon as he was by her side.
"I thought you were dead" Mira told him in the weakest voice possible. If the thought of it killed her, how she managed to live with that knowledge for so long she didn't know.
"I'm right here, love. And I'm not going anywhere" he promised, giving her forehead a gentle kiss. She slowly lifted her hand to reach his face, her weak fingers softly caressing his cheek until she cupped his cheek. Regulus leaned into her touch and closed his eyes, savouring a moment he never thought he would get to experience .
"Reg..." Mira whispered his name, a certain vulnerability in her voice. He hummed in response ,not wanting to ruin this perfect moment with words. "I believe I made a promise" at that his eyes snapped open, his heartbeat quickened and he could feel himself slightly trembling. Mira gave him a weak smile and that's all he needed to see before lowering his head to come closer to hers. His lips hovered over hers for a few moments as he was trying to understand if that was real life or not. Mira,chuckled before taking a hold of his face and connecting their lips with no hesitation.
The kiss was slow and sweet and they both savoured it like it was the last thing they would do. And when they finally pulled away to catch their breaths, they couldn't help but smile like fools.
"I found  your letter" Mira told him as he climbed on the hospital bed beside her , cradling her in his arms.
"Oh" he kissed her neck "And what did you think of it?" he pushed some hair out of her face before he started stroking it gently. Mira didn't immediately answere his question. Instead she closed her eyes and moved even closer to him, wrapping her hands around his neck .
"I love you ,too" she blurted out , her eyes still closed, her heart magically still inside her chest.
"I've waited years to hear that" Regulus said excitedly before starting to give her kisses all over her face.  Mira giggled like a little kid, the smile on her face never leaving.
"Ahhhhhh" they heard someone shout from the door and they jumped up at the interruption. It was James who had his eyes closed with one hand and the other over his chest. He looked horrified . But that was James for you , always had a flare for the dramatics.
"Get away from my sister!" He marched forward and practically dragged Regulus out of the bed, making Mira laugh. Suddenly the room was flooded with people that had come to see her , all stunned at the way James had flanked Regulus away . Their stunned faces soon changed as they all began to laugh alongside Mira.
And in that moment she realised just how lucky she was . Because that's when her life would really begin, with all the people she loved around her .
