You Only Live Once

CHAPTER 27

Summertime was almost coming to an end and Mira had barely managed to walk ten steps outside her bedroom. Unfortunately her friends couldn't give her any more visits after that night. Lily , Remus and even Barty made their visits more frequent though. Lily and Remus wanted to spend as much time with her as possible before she would return to Hogwarts , that's why they were at Potter manor almost every hour of every day. Let's just say no one was complaining about that. Just two weeks before Mira would go back to Hogwarts , she found herself alone at home . Alone with Sirius that is ,but he didn't really count as someone she would hang out with anyway. Mia and Monty had taken Lily and James out to eat , wanting to spoil the love of their son's life . Mia was certain she would become family in the near future anyway. Remus was on vacation with his mother, trying to take one last break before he would have to actually go out into the real world .
Mira was comfortably laying on her bed, just like she was all summer long, when she heard a rather loud sound coming from the roof of the manor . She quickly rose up from the bed , ready to call for Sirius if needed. The sound, that much resembled footsteps , stopped after a few seconds. Mira waited a short while just to be sure before she slowly walked to her bedroom's balcony , to try to see anything suspicious . She couldn't see much from where she was but that leather jacket and the messy black hair that emerged from the side of the roof couldn't be mistaken. It was Sirius and he was...crying? As much as she would rather stay in her own space , the guilt wouldn't let her rest. So she gathered up as much strength as she had in her and made her way to the roof.
Sirius , who was gazing at the stars , trying to get his mind off of everything that was happening around him , suddenly heard a grunting noise that made him sit up straight.
"What are you doing here ,Ro? You're supposed to be in bed" he rolled his eyes , laying back down when he realised who it was.
"And leave you to sulk all by yourself? Never" she replied with a final grant before taking the seat next to him . " I've never been up here. It's quite beautiful. Oh and look you can see all the stars from here! Amazing!" Mira noted excitingly , admiring the clear night sky.
"Oh ,yeah. Moony said you love the stars. Why is that?" Sirius asked , for the first time ever actually curious about something regarding Mira. The younger girl just chuckled before bringing her knees to her chest and hugging them tight, her eyes never leaving the night sky.
"You" she breathed with a small smile. One word . One whisper that if he hadn't been paying attention he wouldn't even listen . And yet he did. And he never thought such a simple word would ever confuse him so much. " When I first came here you all wanted to know who my favourite character was." she reminded , the smile never leaving her lips.
"Well...who is it?"
"You, Sirius" Mira chuckled once more , this time turning her face to look at him , as if to make him understand with a simple look of her eyes. "I have an absusive family and yet I never managed to thrive through it. I never managed to become someone people loved and admired . Someone I would love and admire. I have always been a scared little girl and it always bothered me. And then there was you. You were fictional but you were an inspiration for me" she explained a single tear falling from her eye. " I love the stars because they remind me that there's someone, even fictional, that has been through the same shit as me and can still be loved entirely." there was a short pause between them, both trying to process everything that was being said . Mira had never uttered those things out loud and obviously Sirius had no idea about any of the things he was hearing. " I've always wanted to be loved entirely, despite my trauma Siri. The stars reminded me that I can one day. The stars reminded me of you" Mira's eyes were glistening from the tears that had formed. She wouldn't let them fall though. That was all in the past. She wouldn't allow herself  to cry for the past . Not when the present was so beautiful. Not when she knew that she had finally ,actually been loved .
"Bloody hell , Rosie." Sirius said , letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding. And for the first time ever he hugged her . Sirius Black pulled Mira Aisling to him for the first time , kissing her forehead affectionately. It was a first but definitely not a last.
" See ? We're not that different after all" Mira chuckled after a short while ,pulling back . Sirius let out a genuine laugh before taking her hand in his and looking into her eyes.
"I'm so sorry for how I treated you the past year , Ro. I promise I'll do better...if you give me the chance that is"
"Absolutely" Mira exclaimed excitingly before jumping into Sirius arms to hug him tightly, with a little wince.
"You're still hurting"
"It's worth it"

That night when Monty , Mia and James came back home they found Sirius and Mira cuddled up on the sofa watching a muggle movie .
"Why did she do that?"
"You'll see"
"Is he that stupid?"
"My God , Siri! Just watch the damn movie!"
"Are you two on something?" James asked from behind the couch , with a raised eyebrow , utterly confused and entertained at the sight, at the same time.
"No, dear Prongs. We just decided to become friends"
"You...decided to be...friends?"
"Yup"
"Okay now that you two are friends and I don't have to pretend to hate her . I need to ask one- no two things" James said , getting his coat off and approaching the two friends at the couch , making them stand up. Mia and Monty followed suit, intrigued to learn their son's requests. "Come in for a hug little one" he opened his arms wide , sending a smile to Mira's direction making her giggle before standing up to go hug James. Deep down she knew he didn't hate her but she never had proof of it . Not until now. "I wanted to be like a big brother to you, Ro ,but I wanted to stand by my best friend too. It was tough for me" James admitted hugging Mira as tight as ever.
"It's okay Jamie , I completely understand" Mira smiled up at him . " What was the second thing you needed to ask?"
"Right! Now that we're all lovey dovey and I can actually play the part of your older cousin/brother...can I kill Nott?"
"Not"
