You Only Live Once

CHAPTER 46

The hours went by and no one had gone back down to inform Mira of what was happening upstairs. She didn't know the plan but she trusted Evan and Regulus. The most exciting part of her evening wasn't going to be her getting out of her cell but getting to see them again. Seeing someone after so long of believing they were dead was the weirdest thing. Suddenly she felt stupid for believing they were dead in the first place. But why hadn't they made an appearance in so long? Why hadn't they tried to take him down until now? Those were the questions that were inside her head when the sound of heavy footsteps caught her attention. Unfortunately it wasn't Regulus, Evan or Theodore. It was Barty. Mira thought she could find it in her heart to forgive him after the first stupid thing he had done to her, but after abducting her she wasn't so sure she could forget it easily anymore .
"Mira listen. I know you have no reason to trust me but I need you to come with me upstairs now" Barty said , fiddling to find the right key to open the cell's door. He looked like he was in a hurry.
"Why? So that your Lord can kill me ?" He didn't answer her question. Instead he focused on getting the door unlocked taking a step back when he did so for Mira to go outside. Mira was so weak that when she tried to get herself up she failed miserably, falling back down on the floor. Barty rushed to help her out of pure habit , crouching down to her level and extending his hand for her to take. Mira simply looked at him with an angry expression. His help was the last thing she needed. So Barty took a step back letting her try again on her own. When she managed to stand up she took slow steps to the stairs and took a firm hold of the railing . It was the most excruciating thing she had ever done and she had been through enough curses. When she finally reached the top of the stairs she found the same exact dull living room she had seen just a week ago when they had brought her up for questioning. Much to her surprise Voldemort was standing in the middle of it with his back turned , all on his own. It was the first time Mira saw him without any of his cronies .
"I was feeling charitable today" he stated without turning around. Mira almost scoffed at his statement but held herself back. She walked closer to him with Barty standing right behind her like a guard. Nagini slithered down the stairs and stopped right next to him. "Regulus Black and Evan Rosier are alive. I thought seeing them would lift up your spirits" as if on cue Evan and Regulus appeared at the top of the stairs . Seeing the felt unreal. Her eyes softened and her body relaxed at their sight. "We lost them for a while there but they are now back on track" Voldemort informed her finally turning around so he could see her . "And for their mistakes I think punishing you is only right" with the corner of her eye Mira saw Theodore hiding behind a wooden door , waiting for the right time to reveal himself. But she didn't know what the right time was. She didn't know anything.
As Voldemort raised his wand, ready to torture her Evan set a a safe nearby with fire. When did that get there? But then it all clicked when Voldemort started panting in anguish. The safe was hidden in the naked eye before and the fire wasn't any simple fire. It was fiend fire , to destroy the horcruxes. Barty rushed to take a firm hold of Mira when he saw what was going on so they couldn't leave if anything went south. That's when Theodore appeared behind him and quickly disarmed him , making him let go of Mira and reach for his wand on the floor. Mira took that as an opportunity and moved behind a couch as quickly as she could . That's when Voldemort regained his strength and started shooting spells at everyone with Barty following right on his tracks.
Regulus and Theo didn't hesitate one bit to fight them back, shooting spell after spell. But Evan didn't seem to want to join. Mira couldn't blame him, fighting someone you once loved could never be easy. So when she caught his eye she smiled at him, letting him know that it was okay not to fight. That smile though, became the reason Evan went into the fight as well. What Mira noticed , though, was that his spells were directed only to Voldemort . In all the havoc that was happening a shine just a few steps on her right caught her attention . She slowly crawled to it , trying not to get hit by any spell and make things worse. When she could finally make out what the shine really was from she couldn't help but quietly gasp. It was the sword of Gryffindor. That's when she realised what she had to do. For them to be able to properly kill Voldemort once and for all, Nagini had to be killed first. So Mira took the sword in her hands, as much as they were trembling ,and made her way to the snake , which by some miracle stood still away from the fight. As soon as Nagini noticed someone's presence around her , she quickly turned around , ready to fight. But when she saw Mira with the sword, she didn't even move, as if she knew what she was trying to do was for the best.
'I'm sorry' Mira mouthed to the snake . And for a split second just before she sliced it in two she thought she almost saw Nagini nodding her head in understanding.
Voldemort stopped fighting at once, panting in anguish again. There was one thing for them to do for it all to end.
"Now!" Mira shouted just before Voldemort demanded "Kill them all!"
The fight started again, this time ten times more intense. Mira was just praying that no once else would show up and they would be done with him.
"Avada Kedavra!" She heard Barty cry and her heart  sinked to the ground. She didn't know to who he intended to use the curse on but any loss would be devastating. But the green light didn't reach the opposite side. Instead it was directed to his right, exactly were the Dark Lord stood.
Time stood still. Everyone's breath was stuck in their throats waiting for the end.
Voldemort's body became dust and scattered , and finally everyone was able to breathe again. Heavy , quick breaths that they hadn't taken in a while. In that state Barty snapped his wand in half and threw it under a couch.
"Go!" Barty instructed "I'll take care of everything when everyone comes back. Just take Mira and go!"
Regulus took a hold of Mira's hand and finally they were all gone.
And it was all over.
