You Only Live Once

CHAPTER 50

Regulus ended up spending most of his days with Mira and baby Melody at Potter Manor and often at Lily and James' house in Godric's Hollow. Lily, James, Sirius, Remus, Mira and Regulus had a game night at least twice a week while the new couple also met with their friends from Hogwarts quite a lot.
James wasn't too keen on the idea of Regulus spending so much time with his family, but he quickly changed his mind when he saw how happy both Mira and Sirius were with Regulus around.

It was just a week before Christmas when James, Sirius and Remus were called in by the ministry for the trial of their old friend Peter Pettigrew. Mira had informed them of everything that should've happened that Halloween night and they had cut all ties with Peter immediately . Going to his trial was just to keep up pretenses and don't disobey the ministry.  Regulus' presence was requested by his mother the same night, leaving Mira and Lily alone with the babies.

"So..." Lily started, entering the kitchen , where Mira was wiping the counter. "Are you getting married?"she asked , leaning against the counter with her arms crossed over her chest.

"I don't know, Lils. It was probably something he said without thinking much of it. And it's okay. Whatever's supposed to happen will happen" Mira shrugged her shoulders, not lifting her eyes to look at her best friend.

"Unless you're there to change it" Lily laughed, making Mira do the same. "Do you even want to get married?"

"I do love him. And I know he's not my FIRST love but he is my first LOVE. And honestly, if I had never come here , now I would probably be at college and marriage and kids would be so far away in my mind. But I'm not. So , yes. I want to get married. I just want to do it right ." Mira confessed. That's when she lifted her head to see the smile on Lily's face. A proud smile. "Plus, I already have a child" she added , making both girls laugh. "Let's just hope, Reg knows me as well as I think and won't make a huge deal about asking me"

And as Lily looked at her best friend she didn't see the twenty year old woman she had become but the little fifteen year old who she met early in the morning and was too excited to speak. She saw the sixteen year old who always read the books she loved so they could talk about them. The seventeen year old girl who cried in her arms because a boy broke her heart. The eighteen year old girl who helped her bring her dream wedding to life. And the nineteen year old girl who became a mother and a hero. The girl who always stepped up and always cared for everyone.

"I'm sure he does" she replied softly, walking forward so she could hug her best friend. Mira copied the red-head's action with a laugh even if she didn't  know where it was coming from. "I might still not know who your favourite character was but if the roles were reversed , you would be mine" Mira hugged her tighter at that. Because even if that scenario was impossible, it still meant a lot to her . "I love you, Ro"

"I love you too, Lils"

The sound of the front door opening and closing made the two girl break their hug. They walked to the door where James was simply standing, his head hanging low.

"Rem and Sirius went to their flat. I think we all need time to think after this one" was the only thing he said , moving  to kiss his wife and hug Mira before he walked up the stairs and disappeared without saying another word.

"I'm going back to Potter Manor. And I'm taking Harry with me. Take care of your husband" Mira stated , not letting Lily say anything back before she walked up the stairs too, to take the babies and go. It wasn't too late at night so she could walk the distance with the two strollers. When she was back at the front door with the babies and everything of Harry's she would need , Lily was still there , waiting to see them off. She kissed her baby boy goodbye , caressed baby Melody's head and kissed Mira's cheek. When they had said their final goodbyes and Mira was out of the door she couldn't help but worry about James . Knowing what one of your best friends could've done to you can't be easy . Trusting people is hard enough as it is. She also felt bad for Lily , because she knew that seeing the person you love in such a state was hard .
When she reached Potter Manor, Mia and Monty had already gone to sleep so Mira checked up on them before putting the babies to sleep. Once she was done she went down to the kitchen to make something for herself to eat , that's when the phone rang. Mira was confused and worried all at once. The only people that had Potter Manor's phone number were her friends and family and nobody had called this late at night for a chat. So she rushed to the phone and immediately picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hello, love" Mira let out a breath, relived that it was Regulus and he sounded so calm.

"Reg. You had me worried sick. Have you looked at the time?" She exclaimed , looking at the watch in her hand that read 1:45 am.

"Everything's fine, sweetheart. I just wanted to hear your voice. I haven't seen you since last night" he said and Mira's heart started pounding hard inside her chest. "How has your day been?"

"Relatively boring . Spending time with just Lily was exciting though. We never get to do that anymore. We made pizza. I would save you some but I don't know when I'll see you. Oooh and you missed the cutest thing today! I wanted to tell you face to face but i simply can't resist. Melody saw me in the morning when I woke her up and I swear she had the most confused expression on her face and then she said your name!"

"Did she really?"

"Well something along the lines of it, but she tried. See? I told you she liked you! Oh, and James came back from the trial before I left. Poor bloke was devastated. I took Harry with me so Lily and him could spend some time alone. Thought that might cheer him up and-" Mira's rambling was interrupted by Regulus' laugh from the other side of the phone . "Did I say something funny?" Mira questioned, confused.

"No,no,no it's just... I love you so much" Mira's smile grew so big it hurt her cheeks.

"I love that we can say that so freely" she confessed with a chuckle ,the smile never leaving her lips.

"And you'll hear me say it until we die if you say yes" Mira didn't respond at that, she simply closed her eyes, imagining her life with him . A life with a person that wasn't afraid to tell her 'I love you'. A life where she could show her feelings without being afraid . "Open the door, love" Mira's daydream was immediately cut short. She rushed to the front door, the phone forgotten behind her. Sure enough Regulus stood at the front door, a bouquet of lilies in his hands. Her favourite. "Ooh alright!" He took a breath when her saw her in front of him in her little adorable Christmas pjs which made him even more sure about his decision. "Miranda Rose Potter/ Aisling, will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my forever partner?" He asked, getting on one knee and pulling a ring box out of his pocket.
Mira's hands had travelled to her mouth, which had fallen open, covering it. It took her a while to register what was going on but once she did, tears started to pull in her eyes and she started nodding her head frantically. Regulus stood up, a huge smile prominent on his face, slid the ring into her finger and gave her the sweetest kiss ever.
"I promise I'll take good care of you , love. You and our child." Mira, who was already at the edge of crying, lifted her head to look at him, just to make sure she had heard him correctly. "I'll love Melody just as much as you love her. She's your child, therefore she is mine, too"
"Oh, shut up, I've already cried enough"
