You Only Live Once

CHAPTER 41

The big day had finally come. They day everyone was waiting for. A day of happiness and glory. Lily and Jame's wedding. It was a big deal for a huge amount of people seeing as there were five hundred guests invited. Mia and Monty had gone full out for their son , even if his wedding was in the middle of a war. Lily's family had arrived at Potter Manor the night before and while her parents were lovely people , Mira couldn't help but think that there was no way Petunia and Lily were raised by the same parents. She already knew why Petunia acted the way she did but seeing it in person took everything in her not to throw a punch at her. Vernon had arrived the morning of the wedding alongside Marlene, Peter and Remus who he made sure to openly judge as he did everything in his path:the house, the garden, the plants, the silverware,James' glasses, Sirius' hair, Mira's bold lipstick. It was a red by the way. Everyone did their best to ignore him and keep the joyful mood to which Vernon didn't reply very kindly to. Instead he took Petunia's hand and strutted out of the house and into the garden where the wedding would happen, so they would 'find their seats' even if there was two hours before everyone else would start showing up.
It was now half an hour before the start of the ceremony and people had started to show up . Mira greeted everyone alongside Monty and Mia and showed them to their seats until she decided that it was best for her to pay a visit to James and Lily, see how they were doing. She decided to go and see Lily first , who had decided to get ready in Mira's room because of all the fond memories she had in it. Mira lifted her hand to knock on the door but a voice interrupted her.
"It's your own room, Rosie. You don't have to knock" Mira opened the door and leaned on it.
"How in the world did you know it was me?" She asked , creeped out.
"Everyone else had come up and you were out until two minutes ago. I put two and two together"
"You also took your chances"
"Sure" Lily was always so composed and calm, except when she was taking her exams. Her words always held certainty and were exact. But as she stood there in front of the mirror just twenty minutes before she would have to walk down the aisle ,she sounded stressed.
"Do you love him?" Mira asked out of the blue.She was sure that reminding Lily of the love she shared with James would calm her down.
"I regret not loving him sooner . I wasted all that time and now we don't even know how much we have left and it's all quite scary-"
"It'll all be fine" Mira took a few quick steps closer to her best friend and suddenly hugged her. Lily even if she was startled at first , hugged the younger girl right up and they stayed like that for a while, no words exchanged between them.
"We'll become sisters" Lily whispered into Mira's ear with a delighted laugh.
"Well... technically...we" Mira started pulling back from the hug.
"It feels like it. You are a sister to him , Ro, so now you'll be mine too." Lily's eyes started to tear up as well as Mira's. Lily didn't know what it was about Mira that made her love her so much in such a short time. All she knew was that she made her life better and she couldn't be happier to share a last name with both the love of her life and her favourite girl.
"Speaking of the love of your life. I should go see how he's doing too" Mira announced fully letting go of Lily and turning around so she could quickly wipe the tears that were forming in her eyes which made Lily slightly snort. Classic Mira. "Love you, Lils" Mira never had a friend like Lily in her life. Someone who cared so much so quickly without asking for anything in return. She always knew that they would be inseparable if they ever got to meet which always sounded improbable. She was glad to find out she was right.
"Love you too"

"What if I trip?"
"On your long dress?"
"What if I say 'Do I' instead of  'I do' and I mess everything up"
"It's two words"
"What if a meteor falls on top of my head"
"It won't only be your head"
"What if she doesn't say 'I do'. What if she has regretted it?"
When Mira found James in his room , he was already in a state of panic  and Sirius couldn't do anything to calm him down. Instead he opened his eyes wide at Mira and left the room to bring him some water. Then the questions started, one after the other, the one more unlikely that the latter.
"Are you even listening to yourself?" Mira asked with a roll of her eyes before going to the side of the bed where James was sitting and slapped him right across his face.
"Ouch" he stated , rubbing his cheek where Mira had hit him . She simply shrugged her shoulders and sat next to him. That's when Sirius arrived with the water and sat on the other side of James.
"One day I'll be walking you down that aisle and you'll have so many questions I'll slap you too"
"Promise?"
"Pinky swear"
"I want to do that too" Sirius said in a whiny voice making both Mira and James burst out laughing. "Hey! Knock it off! Prongs here isn't your only brother"
"And what am I? Chopped liver" another voice sounded from the door . And there he stood ,in all his glory: the best man, Remus John Lupin. "Potters! Go get your flowers!"

Everything was perfect and everyone was having the time of their lives. The ceremony was beautiful and the young couple's vows made everyone cry. There was no other time that so much love was in the air. The after wedding reception was also at the garden of Potter Manor , filled with fairy lights and dressed with music and laughter. Mira was sharing a dance with Lily , laughing at the top of their lungs when she noticed Mia, Monty, James and Remus huddled up in a corner looking rather glam. Remus and James looked around frustrated, until their eyes caught Mira's. When they immediately looked anywhere else she knew something was wrong, but she didn't want to leave Lily alone and she definitely didn't t want the wedding to be ruined. James and Remus slowly walked towards the two girls trying to get rid of their previous expressions.
"Can I have a dance with my wife please?" James extended his hand to Lily, a smile adoring his face at the sight of her.
"Yeah, I didn't get a dance with little miss Slytherin over there too" Remus added , mimicking James' move towards Mira.
"Sure" Lily replied , looking at Mira before she went just a few steps further with her new husband.
"Rosie..." Remus circled his hands around her waist and she around his neck as a slow song started playing.
"What's wrong ,Remus?" She immediately asked , concern evident all over her face. Remus didn't talk for a while, he seemed unable to say what he needed to . " There's nothing you can say that'll startle me, Rem. I already know everything so spill it."
"It's Evan and Regulus" at the mention of their names Mira stopped moving and her heart started pounding hard inside her chest. "They're dead"
"Remus that...that wasn't supposed to happen"
