•••The day was finally here, my first official day. I took a shower, letting the warm water ease any remaining doubts. After drying off, I headed downstairs for a quick breakfast. The quiet kitchen was perfect for gathering my thoughts before the day began. I sipped on a cup of coffee and nibbled on toast, mentally preparing for the tasks ahead.
Once I finished eating, I returned upstairs to get ready in my uniform. The uniform was simple yet elegant—a crisp white blouse with his initials on shirt's pocket tucked into a black skirt, with polished black shoes. I smoothed down my blouse, ensuring there were no wrinkles, and adjusted my skirt one last time. I tied my hair back into a neat ponytail, wanting to look as professional as possible.
Satisfied with my appearance, I made my way downstairs to meet the other two maids. They were waiting in the living room, their expressions a mix of curiosity and surprise. It was clear they hadn't expected someone so young to be in charge. But their initial shock quickly gave way to warm and friendly smiles.
"Good morning," I greeted them with a smile before shaking their hands. "I'm Bianca, the house manager. Marisol? And Elena?"
They both indicated who was who.
"Great. Let's do a quick tour of the house, and I'll answer any questions you have."
They both nodded and followed me as I led them through the house. I pointed out the key areas—the living room, dining room, kitchen, and the various guest rooms. They asked questions about the routines and schedules, and I did my best to answer them based on what Jude had told me.
"This is where we keep the cleaning supplies," I said, opening a closet in the hallway. "And over here is the laundry room. If you ever need anything, just let me know."
They seemed reassured by the tour, their initial reservations easing as we moved from room to room. By the time we reached the kitchen, they were more at ease, chatting and laughing as they took in the layout of the house.
The chef, Antonio, had just arrived, and he greeted us with a warm smile. "Good morning, everyone," he said. "Let's go over today's menu options."
We gathered around the kitchen island as Antonio laid out his ideas. "For lunch, I was thinking of a light salad with grilled chicken. And for dinner, we could do a roast with seasonal vegetables."
Antonio then looked through the fridge and pantry, taking stock of what we had. "It looks like we'll need some fresh herbs, extra vegetables, and a good bottle of wine," he said.
I nodded, jotting down the items. "I'll head to the grocery store and pick these up. Jude gave me a card for situations like this."
With the list in hand, I booked a cab to the closest grocery store. The weather was pleasant, and the short ride gave me a chance to clear my mind and focus on the tasks ahead. When I arrived at the supermarket, I grabbed a cart and began picking out the items we needed.
I started with the fresh herbs—basil, thyme, and rosemary—carefully selecting the best bunches. Next, I moved to the vegetable aisle, picking out carrots, potatoes, and green beans. I added a couple of onions and garlic bulbs to the cart as well. Finally, I headed to the wine section and chose a bottle of red that Antonio had recommended.
With everything on the list checked off, I made my way to the checkout. The cashier scanned the items, and I handed over the card Jude had given me. Once the groceries were bagged, I headed back to the house, feeling a sense of accomplishment. This was just the beginning, but I felt confident in my role.
