Jude Bellingham
The Bellingham Residency
•••"How many persons are we looking to get?" I asked standing in my mother's home office. She had one here and back home in Birmingham.
"Well, you'll need a chef" she said a bit distracted as she went through the paperwork in-front of her.
"Two helpers, two gardeners, and house manager to ensure everything is being done smoothly and that this place lacks nothing, you know since I'm thinking about spending more time with Jobe" she ended.
"More time with Jobe?" I quickly asked, "what does he need more time with you for? He has dad"
"Jude you're of age now, surely you didn't think I would live here for your entire career at Madrid" she laughed.
"I don't see why not, what you just said few months down then you're off? who's going to-
"That's why we're hiring people, you'll have a staff to do everything I was doing here, I can hardly keep up besides I'll still visit. You have nothing to worry about."
"You decide to tell me this on a random Tuesday, mid season," I stated. "I thought we were hiring help because we needed it, not because you're basically moving out."
"Jude this isn't up for debate. Anyway, the agency recommended two chefs. Their experience is really impressive, and guess what? We get to have them both cook for us before we decide who we want. Isn't that exciting?"
"Mhm, I guess," I said, glancing at my phone.
"I've scheduled them for tomorrow at 10 a.m. Since it's your rest day, it would be nice for you to be a part of this," she said.
"Mum, whoever you pick is fine. We have the same taste buds," I commented.
"That attitude, stop it right now," she said firmly.
"Okay," I said, giving her my full attention.
"They recommended four helpers. Of the four, we're only picking two. Here, take a look. There are pictures and their resumes," she said, handing me her iPad.
I scrolled through the tablet and opened the first profile.
The first candidate was Marisol, a 54-year-old woman with a warm smile and kind eyes. Her resume was impressive. She had worked for the Almodóvar family, the famous film director, for ten years and before that for the international pop star, Shakira, for five years. Her references were glowing, praising her dedication and impeccable work ethic.
"Marisol seems experienced," I said, looking at my mother.
"Yes, she does. She's been in the industry for 25 years," my mother replied.
I swiped to the next candidate, a younger woman named Maria. She was 39 years old with a sleek, professional appearance. Maria had worked for several high-profile families, including the Beckham family and the Spanish royal family. Her resume highlighted her organizational skills and her ability to manage large households with efficiency.
"Maria seems really capable," I commented.
"She does. She's got a lot of experience with high-profile clients, the Spanish royal family that's something" my mother said thoughtfully.
The third candidate was a woman named Elena, 45 years old, with a sturdy build and a serious expression. Elena had spent the last decade working for the Iglesias family, including Enrique Iglesias, and before that, she had been with the Almodóvar family like Marisol. Her resume emphasized her skills in household maintenance and security, which added a different dimension to the usual helper profile.
