Quicksand Dungeon of Time Pt. 2

SOLENE's mind clouded with fear as they plunge into the empty abyss. She was falling continuously, as if she was in a void of emptiness. She couldn't see anything, and she gasped for air, as if she was trapped in a small container with no holes to breathe in. Even so, she didn't let go of William's hands, feeling his mana beside her. The falling felt forever; hence, she celebrated when the light came below as they fell on a pile of sand. Solene dropped on top of William, who softened the impact.

His concerned eyes met hers. Realizing the situation, Solene quickly got out of her place, wiping the sand off her clothes. "I'm so sorry, Lord William!"

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked.

"Not at all. It's a good thing the sand caught us." She said.

"Very well. Then let us start this mission."

They looked at the dungeon in front of them. There was a hallway in front of them, consisting of only pitch darkness. Solene casted her flame magic, lighting Lampad Torches—illuminating their paths. She exhaled, feeling shaky and uneasy.

"The mana here is really dense," William noted. "It's concentrated. Must be from the stone tablet."

They walked through many twists and turns. This dungeon was already ancient by just looking at the cracked concrete walls and slabs, moss covering the stones, and insects crawling in the ceilings. Solene sensed a rapid surge of mana coming towards her way, docking below as arrows shot her way.

"Be careful." William told her. "This place is full of traps. Make sure you don't step into—" He cut off as the walls shook, closing in towards them.

"The walls are moving! Let's run, Lord William!"

They ran as fast as they could, yet the walls were faster. The path became narrow by the second, hindering them from taking another step or moving a limb at all. The wall pressed against their backs, their bodies colliding. She could feel William's ragged and slow breaths tickle her cheeks. Her chest tightened—perhaps from the lack of air—making her struggle to breathe.

"I can't move at all." She said. She thought of any other thoughts rather than thinking that she was too close to the masked captain, as her head pressed against his chest, close enough to hear the rapid sound of his heartbeat.

"I don't know how we triggered the trap, but we have to get out of here." He said, summoning thick tree branches strong enough to push the walls away from them until it went back to its original place. But when they got to the end of the hallway, their bodies froze when they saw the familiar pile of sand to where they came from.
