Breath of Chimera Pt. 2

SOLENE reported what they saw back at the forest when they got back to the town. Klaus, Shiren, and Hamon retrieved the remains of the person they found, gathering the whole town in front of the central tower.

"Are you sure that's the person who went missing the other night?" Alecdora asked.

"We can't be sure. But it shows that an enchanted beast is out there killing people." Solene answered.

"Well done. This is a great discovery, isn't it, Lord Vangeance?" Alecdora said, complimenting her.

Sophia scoffed. "Such a show off."

Alecdora, who seemed to despise peasants like Sophia was, looked kind of decent and approachable now for Solene. She flashed him a smile. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all. He just got too serious when it came to Golden Dawn matters.

Mimosa gasped. "Does that mean the others who are missing might also be..."

"There's a possibility. We don't know whether it's a man-eating beast or not. But we have to do something to stop it from attacking the townspeople again." William uttered, facing his members. "Let's strategize our next plan of action."

They gathered at the central tower again. This time, William appointed Solene to take over the meeting, where he just observed and threw in insights sometimes. Since she was a hunter, she had more experience and skills when locating and handling these beasts.

William stared at her as she talked, noticing the slight signs of improvement. She got more confident in herself than before, who always seemed timid and weak against others.

Looking at a large map projected to them, Solene ruled out the possible whereabouts of the beast—those that had already been searched by the squad.

"The trees in this area are too small to hide the beast. If it resided here, we would've seen it already. Which means that it belongs somewhere else since we haven't seen other traces of humans besides the one Sophia and I found." Her fingers traced from the town of Barlow upwards to the north-east. "We should explore this large forest."

"But that's in the strong magic regions already! That's outside our borders!" Klaus told her.

"That human remains proves that this beast is a wild and deadly one. It could also be one of those creatures that have enchanted qualities which makes them unique and different from normal ones. If we don't explore this place, more people could get eaten and killed in the future."

"Solene's right." William agreed.

"What shall we do, Lord William? I suggest that we should go here to capture this beast." Solene asked.

Sophia shifted in her seat, fidgeting with her fingers—placing her chin on her palm. Since when did Solene and William look so close? Solene was able to talk normally to William too. When Sophia was a rookie, William barely even noticed or talked to her. Yet he and Solene were already comfortable in each other's presence in such a short amount of time—as if they had known each other for years.

"Very well." William said. "Tonight, we will go to this place. Prepare yourselves. Our mission is to find this beast and take the human victims back."

"Roger!" Everyone saluted. William and Solene's eyes met, exchanging smiles.

On the other hand, Sophia's mind flashed an idea, making her grin.

When the moon had risen above the sky, they went to the forest in a strong magic region. They stood by the entrance of the forest, stunned—everyone refusing to speak or move.
