Breath of Chimera Pt. 1
IT WAS Solene's third day as a Golden Dawn member. She went to the dining hall to eat breakfast, where all the members had gathered, eating at long tables. When she arrived, Sophia Schmitmore made her show, whispering to her other friends. They giggled as they eyed Solene from head to toe.
"Look at her. Even though she wears the same uniform as us, she still looks like a peasant!"
"Hey, did you see her trimming the bushes in the garden the other day? Super hilarious!"
"You're not gonna believe her first mission." It was Sophia speaking this time. "Captain Vangeance made her do an errand in the royal capital to restock our pantry!"
Their laughs resonated in the hall. To be honest, that would've discouraged Solene already, if it hadn't been early morning, and her eyes still drowsy.
"Solene-san! Over here!" Mimosa called on the table in front of Sophia's table. She was with Klaus, Letoile, and Yuno-with his wind spirit Bell.
She wished she could shrink as she walked to their table, feeling the unwavering stares and hearing the whispers of the people around her. Since when did she become a celebrity?
"It's just her third day but she's already hanging out with Mimosa?"
"You're thinking about her? She's already comfortably talking with Vice Captain Yuno!"
Mimosa did tell her that Yuno seemed like a celebrity, not only in the Golden Dawn but in the kingdom too. He must have one, toxic fanbase then.
"Don't mind them. They just don't have anything else to do." Klaus told her.
Letoile nodded, sighing. "It's always the girls."
Yuno didn't mind what was happening and just kept eating silently.
"Ugh. When they did the same to Yuno, I showed them the consequences of angering a wind spirit! I styled their hair with my magic so hideous that they were too embarrassed to come out. They came crying to the captain, asking for a leave!" Bell flew towards Solene. "I can do the same for you. I'll gladly do it again."
"I'll decline." Solene said, flashing them a smile. Somehow, they didn't look convinced. "I'm fine, really."
She looked around, looking for that golden masked captain who put her in this state.
"Where's Lord William?"
"Lord Vangeance doesn't usually eat in the dining hall. He only stays in his office." Klaus answered.
"Why though?"
"We have no idea. He prefers it that way, so we just let him be." Letoile said.
Solene pictured William eating alone in his office. Did he feel lonely? Why didn't he eat with his squad members, strengthening their bonds, and getting to know them even more? If he hung out with them more, maybe Solene would become closer to him-that awesome yet mysterious captain William Vangeance.
