Damsel in Distress Pt. 2

"Even the cruelest of Fates had tried their hardest to cut their threads. But to him whose love was everlasting, he was willing to defy and tie its knots for the sake of his beloved."

EVERYTHING WAS WHITE.

Everything was light.

Solene didn’t know if she was unconscious, if she was still alive, or if she was still human.

Was she in heaven?

She couldn’t feel her body. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t move. It was as if only her consciousness remained in this endless void, as if everything was just a part of a memory. Then in that void a fuzzy scene flashed, like it was covered in cloudy mist.

“Solene.” A voice called from afar. She saw a face, brightly glowing, and her features hidden. Behind her was a sun, its rays golden and sharp—and warm.

“Solene.” The voice was clearer this time. A voice of a woman, soft and endearing. “You are a blessing from the heavens.”

For a short moment, everything was peaceful, until the scene shifted. The place turned gray, the cloudy mist obscuring the face and the sun behind her, and everything turned to ashes, as if it caught on fire. Screams of agony, cries of despair, and lines of curses. It filled the whole place, making Solene want to cover her ears. But… she had no ears.

“I will burn them to ashes!”

“Solene! Do you hear me?”

“I will burn you to the ground!”

Please, make this stop! Get me out of here! Solene thought as the shouts grew louder and louder.

“Solene, you’re the only one I have.”

“I will never forgive you!” That final shout sent a fiery blast, setting everything around her on fire. Solene felt the searing pain from the flames, screaming her lungs out—although, she remembered, she didn’t have a voice, nor a body. Solene was nothing, but she felt everything.

She awoke, groaning as she still felt the stinging pain on her skin. She tried to scream, but her voice was muffled, hindered by a cloth that was covering her mouth. She was blinded, seeing nothing but pitch darkness. She heard laughs in front of her, feeling their mana. There were two men putting flames on her skin.
