MATTHEW
"Come in." I call out to whoever is knocking on my office door. Richard my assistant peeks in his face giving away his fear, for what I don't know.
"What's wrong?" I say immediately standing up and walking to him but he just stares at me then on the floor. "Richard?" I ask my mind racing with different scenarios.
Did something happen to Trey? My parent, Kayla or Thando for that matter?
"Umm.." He looks at me then clears his throat as if to prepare himself to deliver bad news. "There's someone who wants to see you." He says finally.
I exhale when I hear his answer glad it's not as worse as I thought but something about the look he's giving me has the back of my mind saying it's definitely bad news.
"Who is it?" I ask.
"Miranda, Sir." He says and everything stops moving.
MIRANDA.
Just hearing her name has me all burnt up with rage.
Did I expect her to show up here in my restaurant after she fell off on the face of earth?
Absolutely not.
Even though she's been calling and texting me this past few days I certainly haven't in my wildest dreams thought she will turn up in my workplace or matter of fact come back in my life.
What the hell does she want after all these years?
"Mr Waters?" Richard says looking at me with fear in his eyes.
Good Lord, I must look like a madman if my assistant is looking at me with that much fear in his eyes.
"Where exactly is she?"
"Waiting at the bar." He says then adds. "She insisted you come there otherwise she will cause a scene until you come."
Of course she did. Typical Miranda, always thinking about herself.
"Alright. Thanks Richard. I'll be there in a minute." I tell him and he walks out leaving me all on my own in my office.
I could just ask for my security to escort her out but I just know she will somehow find a way to come back again. I guess I only have one choice. To talk to her even though I want absolutely nothing to do with her.
I open the door to my office matching downstairs to the bar and there she is. Legs crossed wearing a black dress with black heels and her hair all let down smoothly. Our eyes meet for the first time in six years and I don't know when I got to her but suddenly I'm standing right in front of her as we stare at each other.
She smiles but her smile doesn't affect me even for a bit like it used to back in the days I loved her.
"Hi." She finally says her voice still sounding the same except this time her voice doesn't make me feel giddy like before.
"Aren't you going to say something?" She stands up attempting to hug me but I step back.
"Follow me." I say not looking back to see if she's following me.
Her footsteps follow me as I walk outside to the parking lot angry at her audacity to just show up.
"What are you doing her?" I demand the moment we're outside.
"Seriously Matthew," She rolls her eyes. "That's not the way to greet the mother of your child."
"DON'T YOU DARE CALL YOURSELF A MOTHER." My angry voice fills the whole parking lot as I look at her. "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO WALK INTO MY WORKPLACE DEMANDING TO SEE ME THEN THREATENING MY ASSISTANT?" I bark pointing my finger at her.
"I've been calling and texting for weeks but you haven't replied to any of them so I had to come here in order to talk to you." She says calmly as if I owe her my time and attention.
"I'll ask you for the last time." I warn. "What the fuck are you doing here?" I ask.
"My son." She says and I think I have a hearing problem because there's no way she said that to me but she proves me wrong as she continues. "I'm finally ready to meet my son and reconcile with him."
I laugh at her face my eyes watering at how hard I'm laughing then look at her face that is masked with confusion.
"Whats so funny?" She asks her hands on her waist.
"You, obviously." I say as I wipe my eyes then get serious. "The fact that you think you can come into my life and make demands is very much laughable. Let me remind you of something you've clearly forgotten about, you have no son, you made that decision when you left that hospital carrying no child in your arms." I remind her as I get angry all over again.
"But I told you why I had to do what I did." She raise her voice.
"You lied, that's what. I'm not interested in revisiting the past with you. You don't deserve even the time I'm giving you right now. Turn around and go back to wherever you just came from." I say as I turn around not interested in this talk we're having.
"I will meet my son Matthew, whether you like it or not. Mark my words." She yells back.
I turn around giving her my attention then say. "You keep saying your son but if you were the mother you've convinced yourself to be, you'd call your so called son with his name. but guess what? You don't even know his name." I say shaking my head disgusted. "You left us for a man you claimed to love. I wonder does he even know you're here?"
"I wa..." She goes to say but I stop her raising my hand. "I'm not interested in whatever you have to say. Leave."
"I will fight for my son Matthew."
"Try but let me tell you something you already know. No matter how many lawyers come my way, I will win at the end. You will never get the chance to be anywhere near my son. So save yourself the battle of loosing." I tell her. "I would do anything for my son even if it means taking on the woman who gave birth to him but you wouldn't know that because you know nothing about being a mother." I say then turn around leaving her standing at the parking lot.
How dare she? How dare she thinks she can come just back from God knows where then demand to be a mother to my son. If she thinks I will allow that she better think again because that's not going to happen. I would fight every lawyer and every person who thinks they have a chance of taking my son from me.
I hope for her sake she will not try anything.
