CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

THANDO
I walk towards the bench where my friends are sitting both their eyes find mine as they stare at me. Jasmine scoot over indicating for me to sit in the middle but I shake my head leaning by the wall facing them.
God, be with me.
My voice trembles a bit. "I just want to start by saying I'm really sorry you both found out the truth like that."
"More like you're sorry we found out at all, right?" Kayla fires back glaring at me and I feel the slap from just her stare. "We're you ever going to tell us even?"
I sigh. "Of course. I was planning to tell you sooner."
"I find that hard to believe." She huff rolling her eyes. "How long have you both been together anyway?"
Matthew appears just then standing beside me taking my hand in his.
"Are you okay?" Matthew asks and I nod grateful to have him by my side.
"Are you angry at us?" Matthew directs his question to Kayla who's watching us.
"Obviously." She says the word like we shouldn't even had to ask. "How long have you together?" She asks again this time to his brother.
"About three months now." Matthew answers.
"Two months and two weeks." I remind him but he just smiles and says. "Same thing."
"Are you kidding? And we knew nothing about this?" Kayla cries out.
"I definitely knew." Jasmine says and  Kayla's mouth open in surprise.
See? I knew it.
I knew she knew something!
"And you didn't tell me because?" Kayla accuses my other friend who raises her hands shaking her head. "It wasn't my business to tell."
"Can we focus on what's important." Matthew says to my friends who're scolding at each other and they both look at our direction as if remembering this is about us.
"Why did you keep your relationship a secret? Honestly I fail to understand this." Kayla rubs her forehead.
"We weren't keeping our relationship a secret Kayla, we just wanted to keep it to ourself before announcing to everyone." Matthew reasons.
"But we're not everyone." Jasmine scoffs. "You took away our rights of deciding whether he's good enough for you or not." She points her finger at me and I can't help smiling at her.
"You can still do that."
Matthew glares me looking offended. "You don't think I'm right for you?"
"That's not the point." I tell my boyfriend who's half scolding me.
"You're all missing the point. What I'm asking is why did no one tell about this since apparently I'm the only one didn't know?" Kayla whisper shout at us like we are her children.
"I mean I also wasn't told, I figured they're relationship on my own." Jasmine reminds Kayla who roll her eyes. "Jasmine, you know what I mean."
"Truly speaking, I was scared to break the promise I made."
Kayla looks at me confused. "What promise is that?"
Jasmine reminds her. "The promise to never date your brother."
"What?" Kayla burst out laughing and we all watch her as she holds her stomach laughing so hard tears falling down her face.
"What's so funny?" Matthew ask Kayla who's still laughing. I look at my boyfriend who's rubbing his forehead he's face evidence with exhaustion.
"Oh my God. You guys are so funny." Kayla chuckles wiping her tears. "Are you talking about a promise I made when we're teenagers?"
"That one."
"I don't know what to say." She tells us recovering from her laugh trying to appear serious but failing miserably. "I can't believe you took me that serious."
I just stare at her deciding whether to slap her or strangle her for making me go through so much guilt over the many years. For years I've felt guilty of having a crush on his brother, for being in love with Matthew and having unspeakable dreams about him. For month I've been feeling guilty for not telling her of my relationship which I've wanted nothing more than to share with them.
"Of course I took you serious. You we're deadly serious when you made us promise that." I say in annoyance.
"Is that why you didn't tell me, then?" She asks me with a pity look.
"Yes. I was scared shitless that I've betrayed you and I would lose our friendship." I tell her frustrated and tears of relief falling down my face.
"Oh babes," My girl says as she stands up and wrap her arms around me. "You could never lose my friendship. I love you too much."
"I love you too." I say between my tears.
"And I love you three." Jasmine joins our hug. After a while we pull from our hug and I see Kayla pulling his brother for a hug as well.
"I love you." Matthew tells her as they pull from their hug. "Thank you for accepting my relationship with your friend."
"She's the perfect match for you and I don't say that because she's my friend. You and my nephew deserve someone who loves you both unconditionally and I know Thando is the perfect person. I would choose her over and over to be yours." Kayla tells her brother and the goes my tears.
"Thank you." Matthew tells her as he kiss her forehead. "You're the best sister I could ask for."
My heart melt.
The Waters parents joins us a minute later looking between us frowning.
"What we're you all crying about?" Richards asks looking between us.
"Nothing. Just tears of joy." Kayla answers her father as he wraps his arms around her and Jasmine.
"I think you should all go home and rest. I'll let you know once Trey is discharged and you can visit him at my house then." Matthew tells everyone.
"But.." Mrs Waters begins to say but Matthew stops her. "Mom, I promise you can come over at my house for as long as you want when Trey gets home Monday."
"Alright." She tells him then hugs him.
"Okay but Jasmine and I would like to see Trey before we go." Kayla tells her brother already walking towards Treys room with Jasmine hand in hand.
"Thando darling, I'm glad you're with my son. For years I've prayed he finds his person and God couldn't have answered me better." Linda embrace me in her motherly hug.
"I'm grateful he's mine too." I tell her as we pull from our hug. Mr Waters also hugs me as well.
"Alright darling, call us if you need anything at all."  Richard tells Matthew who nods in agreeing.
"I guess we will see each other on Monday then."  Mrs Waters says before she and her husband leaves.
"Did you drive here?" Matthew wraps his arms around me.
"No, I took an Uber."
"I'm really sorry for not fetching you at the airport baby."
"What are you talking about? I don't care about that at all." I tell him kissing him softly.
"You can use my car then come with it on Monday to fetch us." He says in between our kiss. I stop kissing him looking at him like he's crazy.
"What are you talking about? I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying here until Trey comes home with us." I tell him firmly.
"What about work?"
"Don't worry about that."
"Are you sure? You we're at the wedding and haven't had time to rest properly."
"I'm sure babe and between us you're the most tired one."
"I'll rest once Trey is fully recovered."
"I understand baby but in the meantime how about we both go and rest in Treys room?" I ask him as I snuggle closer to him welcoming his scent and warmth.
"I suppose we could make use of those couches."
My friends walk out saying their goodbye to Matthew who walk inside the room leaving me alone with them.
Jasmine takes my hand. "I could use some sleep right now. Come on girls, let's hit the road."
"I'm staying behind."
Jasmine makes a crying. "Awww, my best friend is in love and I'm here for it."
"You deserve all the happiness in the world and if it's with my brother and nephew then by all means bless you." Kayla tells me.
"Thank you both for your blessings. I hope your soulmate is near as well."
Kayla giggles. "I probably met mine already."
Jasmine and I giggle at that but I can't help the sadness that I see on Jasmines face before she says. "I don't know about you but I'm done with love."
"Is this because you're still in love with.." I'm about to say the name of the person she's ever loved when she put her hand on my mouth stopping me from talking.
"Don't say his name, please."
"Oh, Jasmine. It's been years, when will you ever move on?" Kayla ask her but she just shake her head clearly not up for this conversation.
"I don't want to talk about this guys, please let's drop it."
"Alright. I'll guess I'll see you both Monday then?"
"Without a doubt." Kayla answers before we hug and they leave while I walk inside Treys room joining my man who's sitting on the couch.
"Join me?"
I don't even waste time, I simply go to him cuddling him wholly and together we nap a very long needed nap.
