"Tai, did you get the money ready?" Natalie asked urgently

There was a brief pause before Taissa responded, her tone heavy with reluctance. "I can't."

Natalie's eyebrows shot up in disbelief. "Can't? You're supposed to be the rich one."

Taissa let out a sigh, the weight of her own troubles evident in her voice. "I'm going through some shit with my family right now. My wife and I aren't really in a place where I can ask her to co-sign a withdrawal of 50 grand, so..."

Natalie felt a surge of anger and panic. "Fine. I'll get it."

Taissa's concern was palpable, even through the phone. "How? You're gonna sell your soul?"

Natalie clenched her jaw, determination hardening her features. "Just be ready when this fսcker texts again, okay?"

Taissa hesitated before speaking again, her voice softer but insistent. "No, Nat. Try asking Evelyn. She's much more loaded than me."

Taissa hesitated before speaking again, her voice softer but insistent. "No, Nat. Try asking Evelyn. She's much more loaded than me."

There was a long silence on the line as Natalie considered this. Finally, she spoke, her voice firm but conflicted. "No."

Taissa's frustration bubbled over. "No? I don't think we're in a situation where we can just say no, Natalie."

Natalie's grip tightened around her phone, the plastic casing creaking under the pressure. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. "Tai, Evelyn hates me."

Taissa's voice was stern but not unkind. "Yeah, she does. But she's also the only one who can help us right now."

Natalie let out a bitter laugh. "And you think she'll just hand over fifty grand because I asked nicely?"

"No," Taissa replied firmly. "I think she'll hand it over because it's not just about you. It's about all of us. If you don't come around, if you don't make an effort, then yeah, she'll keep hating you."

Natalie remained silent, the words hanging heavily in the air.

Taissa continued, her tone softer but insistent. "Look, I know it's hard. But if there's one thing I've learned, it's that we can't do this alone. We've survived worse together. We can do this too."
