"I can't keep pretending. I love you, more than I've ever loved anyone. And it terrifies me, but it's the truth. I need you to know."

[1996]
Evelyn quietly entered the room, her footsteps barely audible on the wooden floor. In her hand, she carried a cup of water. She spotted Shauna sitting by the window, engaged in a conversation with Taissa.
Evelyn approached them, her presence unnoticed until she was close enough to extend the glass to Shauna. "Here," she said softly, holding out the water.
Shauna looked up, her face breaking into a grateful smile. "Thanks," she replied, taking the cup and sipping from it. The water seemed to ease the tension in her shoulders.
Taissa, noticing Evelyn's arrival, turned to greet her. "Good morning, Evelyn," she said with a bright smile, her tone unusually cheerful for the early hour.
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in her eyes. "You're awfully chirpy," she remarked, her voice carrying a teasing edge.
Taissa chuckled, shrugging lightly. "Just trying to start the day on a positive note."
Evelyn's lips curled into a small smile as she glanced between the two of them. "Well, it's nice to see," she said, her tone softening.
Just then, the door creaked open, the sound drawing all three women's attention. Van's voice followed, cutting through the quiet. "Tai, they're about to start," she called out from the doorway.
Taissa glanced over her shoulder, nodding at Van. "I'll be right out," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of warmth that seemed to brighten the room. Van smiled, her expression softening as she caught Taissa's eye before she gently closed the door, leaving the three women alone once more.
Evelyn watched the door click shut,Van's smile seemed to linger in the air, shifting the atmosphere in the room. A brief silence settled between them, and Shauna, narrowing her eyes, looked at Taissa with an intense expression that said everything—Are you serious?
Taissa, catching the look, sighed and raised her hand in surrender. "Don't," she said firmly.
Shauna scoffed, shaking her head. "Seriously, Tai? You too?"
Taissa finally met Shauna's gaze, her tone exasperated but resigned. "It's mostly Lottie's woo-woo bullshit, listening to the trees," she muttered, casting a quick glance at Evelyn before adding, "No offense."
