Toxic Devotion

Type: Emitter

Is a mind/body controlling and aphrodisiac quirk that allows the user to produce a royal blue smoke from their body (similar to Midnight) that makes ANYONE that is exposed to it become a 'love slave' as they will fall madly in love with the user (can affect animals and insects too). Though the user can also turn anyone into a love slave by physical touch, through their own  saliva, tears, blood, and sweat. Regardless of the method of intoxication, the affected will do whatever is ordered of them  as they desperately try to please their master and the user can even  manipulate/change the slave’s memories about the events that unfold while they are under control.

For example, if the user wished the love slave to stop breathing then their entire diaphragm would instantly stop functioning and their lungs would stop the vital oxygen exchange. This is why it is a mind controlling quirk that has total dominion over the affected’s body and mind. In addition, if the user gives the love slave a command and has their quirk subsequently canceled (be it by another quirk or suppressing cuffs, etc.); the victim will still follow the order given and will remain a love slave until the toxins from the quirk  have run their course.

When someone becomes a love slave, there are no physical ‘markers’ to indicate that the victim is under control vs other quirks like Shinsou’s in which the brainwashing is physically evident in the eyes (they become blank).

The can also instruct his ‘slaves’ into behaving normally and only react when a command is given. Moreover, it is possible for the user to  modulate the degree of ‘love’ that the  slaves feel for them. As such, the user can either have full control of the affected or use their quirk to lightly influence the target’s choices.  If partially controlled, the target will be conscious of themselves and but will not remember anything else that happened prior to falling under the quirk’s influence.

Now, for fully controlled victims the time limit effect of Toxic Devotion depends on the degree of intoxication.  If the targets receive the lowest dosage of toxins, the control can last between 30 minutes to 4 hours. However, if the maximum  safe amount of toxins were administered, then the control will last up to 3 whole months for that is how long dopamine lasts in the human body which is the neurotransmitter that the quirk imitates. Dopamine is the so called ‘happy’ neurotransmitter involved the body’s reward circuit which in turn has an effect in mood (has a role when in love and attraction), motivation, memory, attention, and movement.

However, though the bodies of the affected can recover by themselves, if the  the maximum amount of toxins was used, they will experience dopamine withdrawal symptoms (as being intoxicated is akin to have taken dopamine increasing drugs) which are most notably:  anxiety, panic attacks, pain, sleep disturbance, fatigue, orthostatic hypotension (drop in blood pressure upon standing that can cause fainting and injury from falls), and dysphoria (state of unease or generalized unhappiness, restlessness, frustration, or dissatisfaction). For this reason, it is BEST for the user to willfully relinquish control  so that the victims can recover quickly without any secondary effects.

Additionally, the user can manipulate the smoke they produce to condense and shape it into semi-solid constructs (knifes, daggers, etc) that can be used in a fight though they lack  destructive power and can only be used in close combat (like throwing knives). Nonetheless, they can be made sharp enough to cut through normal skin (won’t work against quirks that harden or strengthen the epidermis). If anyone is injured with the toxic smoke,  they will become a love slave but the control will last only up to one hour.

Besides shaping the toxic smoke, the user,  can condense it into a liquid form and can make it akin to water or as thick like slime.  They can use the liquid to throw at opponents and if it’s absorbed through their mouth, eyes, nose, or any open wounds; the targets can become love slaves for a max of 1 hour. The user can also use the liquid to contaminate drinking sources to create more slaves.

Now, there is an another level of dangerousness to this quirk  and it is the reason why it is called Toxic Devotion. If an UNSAFE amount of the quirk was used, those affected could actually end up dying. This occurs when the dosage surpasses the Therapeutic Window which is the the range of blood level concentration in wherein  a drug is producing the desired effect without the feared toxicity/adverse effects. Consequently, after 12 hours of being exposed to such high level of toxins, these will end up oversaturating the tissues in the body and cause dangerous widespread inflammation which could lead to tissue necrosis, anasarca (generalized  swelling of the body) as it retains too much fluids, and subsequent organ failure.

The affected have some chance of survival if they are quickly given medical attention as soon as these symptoms begin. However, the fate of those that manage to survive this  systemic poisoning isn’t much better. This is because the body ends up becoming chemically dependent on the user’s quirk.  Meaning they need to be exposed to a certain amount of the user’s toxins just to function normally. At this point, the will no longer want to sleep, eat, or drink  if they do not receive an appropriate toxin dosage. The only way to keep them alive would be for the user to apply a small toxin dosage or for a drug of similar chemical formula to be made and given in place of the toxic quirk. 

While Toxic Devotion  lacks in firepower its ability to control a large number of people  definitely makes up for it. Depending on the number of the controlled targets, their quirks, skills, etc, the user can utilize them to attack, defend, and act as support. However, the user must be careful when working in a team so as not to affect the members accidentally. As such, allies must carry special masks to filter the air when the user  actives their quirk.

Drawbacks: dehydration (as the quirk utilizes the body’s own water and moisture  to create the smoke), dry skin, anhidrosis (can't sweat), overheating (since the user can’t sweat to cool off), exhaustion, and fainting.
