Scriptoria:
Allows the user to be able to create and freely modify fake worlds inside any book or reading material that can be opened and closed similar to a book such as a booklet, brochure, a folder with papers/documents inside, etc. They must physically write, dictate, or think up the world script before manifesting it through the medium. This requires energy and focus proportional to the complexity of the world or the changes made.
Nonetheless, the user can either choose to enter the fake world themselves or watch/manipulate it as an outside spectator. If they choose the former, when they enter a fake world, they cannot interact with the real world until they exit.
They can also decide to trap people, animals, and material/sources. Whatever is trapped inside will not be affected by the flow of time and becomes essentially immortal while inside the fake world. Though the user can make time flow as they desire and even eliminate the biological needs of those inside (people won't feel hungry, tired, thirsty, etc).
The user can also save all information that occurs within the world, someone's reactions, memories, video or audio of all experiences as if they were recording a movie. This data can then be transmitted or sent anywhere the user desires.
Moreover, the user can absorb all kinds of attacks using books or similar mediums and absorb any kind of resources inside limitlessly.
In addition, the user can trap enemies by scripting their presence into the fake world. Once inside, the user could modify the world's environment to render them powerless or neutralize threats by removing their abilities, strength, their will to fight, and damaging them physically and/or psychologically.
Furthermore, memory and emotion manipulation are possible. The user could modify or replay someone’s memories inside a scripted world. This could be used to heal trauma, extract information, manipulate their perception of reality, or to even brainwash them and turn them into pawns.
However, this doesn't only apply to those that become trapped in the fake worlds. The user can also script memories or experiences for themselves to temporarily acquire skills or knowledge they didn't originally possess (e.g., scripting “years of martial arts training” into their own story).
Besides it's combat applications, Scriptoria can also be used to create detailed simulations which can help in training or be used for leisure/entertainment (e.g, by scripting "being on vacation in a tropical paradise"). They could even script historical recreations, or make fictional scenarios to explore “what if” possibilities.
Despite the quirk's versatility, the biggest drawback is the fragility of the mediums. The destruction of the physical medium containing a fake world would immediately annihilate everything stored inside. To mitigate this, the user could utilize sturdy or quirk enhanced books, or duplicate worlds across multiple mediums (copying the same world into several books, booklets, etc.). For the latter, whatever changes/editing they do to one medium will be saved and replicated for the rest of the copies automatically.
This is important because the user’s connection to a world could falter if the medium is partially damaged, resulting in instability within the world itself (e.g., corrupted data, warped physics, or chaotic time flow).
Advanced Techniques:
Layered Realities:
The user could create worlds within worlds, layering dimensions for extra complexity or to confuse enemies. However, maintaining multiple layers could be extremely taxing.
World Inversion:
The user could momentarily make the fake world “real,” swapping it with reality for a short period. This could unleash chaos, as the scripted world’s laws and inhabitants would directly impact the physical world.
Binding Contracts:
By scripting conditions into the world, the user could enforce agreements or restrictions on anyone who enters (e.g., “You cannot lie while in this world”). Breaking these rules could have consequences like ejection or punishment within the fake reality.
*In sum, this quirk is very versatile and allows the user to either fight alone or with a team. Though it lacks immediate firepower, its ability to instantly change and be modified by the user makes up for this. It also brings an element of unpredictability to the battlefield which can be used to confuse and surprise enemies while creating opportunities for teammates to strike.*
Drawbacks: fatigue, headaches, mental strain as the more complex a world is, the more energy and focus are required to create/manipulate it. The user may also experience psychological issues due to spending too much time scripting or living in alternate realities. This is because the user can become confused about what is real and what is a fake world . They can also become disappointed with true reality as their created worlds are much better, thus, becoming addicted to their fake worlds is a very feasible possibility.
