Nightmare Reality:
Type: Emitter
A type of mental manipulation quirk that allows the user to make any target's, that is within a 60 meter radius, worst fears/nightmares become real. Alternatively, they can imagine and create any kind of monstrosity to attack/torment opponents. Any fear or creature is physically made tangible and they will only focus on a specific target. For this reason, the harm that the nightmares do can be physical, psychological, or both and only the selected targets can ‘fight back' against them. Consequently, no one, besides the quirk user, will be able to assist the affected because once summoned the monsters will derive their energy from their target by steadily consuming their life force. This makes it impossible for quirk cancelling technology or abilities to stop and eliminate the monsters. To get rid of the nightmares, there are a few options:
1) The target would have to accept/face their fears, physically fight them off as they have become tangible to them (the target) only.
2) Depending on the type of fear or nightmare, they may be able to overcome it through sheer will and courage (like overcoming guilt, regret, etc).
3) Disrupting the user so to interrupt quirk usage.
4) Falling unconscious
5) Being electrocuted with enough voltage to interfere with the quirk's power over the mind, though they will temporarily be unable to move/fight while their body slowly recovers from the electric shock.
Moreover, how affected a target becomes not only depends on their physical strength or health, but also their mental fortitude. For those who have a weak or vulnerable mentality (are emotionally unstable, have mood disorders, have experienced psychosis, panic attacks, etc), Nightmare Reality's effect grows exponentially. Even the mind's perception of the surrounding environment can be manipulated and twisted, further increasing the fear value of the nightmares (example: a target seeing themselves as stuck in a real hell surrounded by demons vs just seeing demons around them). This will make the target experience an even greater level of mental stress and the negative emotions felt will continue to endlessly feed the quirk's power. As a result, stronger nightmares/ monsters can be created and even if the victim survives being subjected to the quirk, they can experience subsequent mental sequela which can worsen already preexisting conditions or cause the development of new and more severe psychiatric disorders including psychosis. In addition, this may spiral into a deep depression which can lead to self harm and suicide.
Given that Nightmare Reality's power lies more in the mental manipulation of opponents, it is a quirk that lacks firepower. As such, it is more advantageous to use it while being part of a team. This way the user can support by messing with the mental state of opponents to weaken them, creating favorable situations for their team and creating opportunities/openings to cause significant damage. Nonetheless, when used correctly, the user can also fight alone though depending on the situation they may become vulnerable when facing multiple enemies by themselves.
In addition, Nightmare Reality affects only targets that are selected by the user and thus there is no risk of 'friendly fire ' occurring among teammates. Furthermore, the quirk has great synergy with other brainwashing/emotional manipulation meta-abilities.
Drawbacks: the user will experience their own nightmares, have vivid hallucinations falling asleep or when waking up, and, insomnia, and an impending feeling of doom. Effects can last between 20 minutes to 8 hrs if overuse is severe enough.
