Inkbound Butterflies:
The user possesses numerous black butterfly tattoos across their body, which they can animate and change the color of. By using their vitality, they are able to bring these tattoos to life and telekinetically control them. The butterflies can be sent from their hands, back, neck, torso, legs, and face, though they often focus their energy on their hands to direct the butterflies toward opponents. All of the butterflies appear and feel real to the touch. The only way to distinguish the fake ones is by sprinkling water on them, which causes the ink to run and destroys the illusion. The user can create a variety of butterfly types, each with unique abilities and distinct markings on their abdomens for identification.
The butterfly tattoo types:
Killing butterflies have a small red timer like that of a black widow spider.
Disease butterflies that can infect victims with mild to severe illnesses bear a small yellow biohazard sign.
Combustion butterflies are marked with small orange flames and can burn up to 800°C (1,472°F).
Electric butterflies have a small blue lightning bolt and can deliver up to one million volts of electricity.
Torture butterflies are marked with a purple X and cause severe and instant neurological pain.
Decay butterflies, which can corrode both organic and inorganic materials, are black and white in color.
The decay butterflies can decay a target with a single touch, though the victim may survive by quickly amputating the affected area. Nonetheless, the butterflies release pale white toxic spores to create hazardous zones or explode at the user’s command to spread the spores. To make these zones dangerous, the user must either work covertly or have a team to help restrain enemies while the butterflies do their work.
Though the butterflies may appear slow, they can teleport within seconds up to a distance of 50 meters from the user. This, combined with the fact that the user can summon thousands of them in moments, makes them a formidable threat. The user can also alter the size of the butterflies, ranging from as small as 7mm to as large as a car’s steering wheel. While size affects their power, it does not affect their speed. The user can also teleport to any location where their butterflies are present, whether they are still flying or have fused to surfaces as paintings. They can even hide within the butterflies unless one is destroyed.
Additionally, the butterflies can fuse with a target’s skin, becoming temporary tattoos, or adhere to objects and surfaces, turning into paintings. This allows the user to activate them later as traps or to control enemies through fear. The tattoos last up to 24 hours, and during this time, the user can track the target’s location. They can also cancel the tattoos at any time.
If enough tattoos are active, the user becomes as weightless as the smallest butterfly, allowing them to move silently and balance on even the thinnest thread. This ability, which was the first noticed before the butterfly tattoos appeared on their body, gave the quirk its name. This weightlessness allows them to glide through the air, but it also makes them vulnerable to strong winds, requiring caution.
Despite the versatility of the quirk, the butterflies are best suited for defense and long- or mid-range combat, as they lack destructive power and are fragile. They work best as deterrents, traps, distractions, or support, rather than in close combat. Careful strategy is essential, as improper use can lead to the user being overwhelmed by their opponents.
Drawbacks: exhaustion, skin irritation, dry, cracked skin, and mild bleeding from overuse of ink. If too much vitality is drained, fainting may occur.
