Later that night, each girl lay awake in their room, unable to sleep. The silence of the night only heightened their senses, making every creak and whisper of the wind seem ominous.
Danielle stared at the ceiling, her mind racing. "We need to be prepared for anything," she whispered to herself, clenching her fists.
"Danielle, are you asleep?" Luna called softly from the other side of the room.
"No," Danielle replied, turning her head to see Luna sitting up in her bed. "I can't stop thinking about that monster."
"Me neither," Luna admitted, pulling her knees to her chest. "Do you think it will come back?"
Danielle sighed. "I don't know, but we need to be ready if it does."
Immediately, they heard a growl and a slither in their room.
Danielle's heart skipped a beat as the growl echoed through the room. "Did you hear that?" she whispered, sitting up quickly.
Luna nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "It's here," she said, her voice trembling.
The growling grew louder, accompanied by the unmistakable sound of something slithering across the floor. Danielle and Luna instinctively moved closer together, their eyes scanning the room for any sign of the monster.
"Luna, we need to transform," Danielle said urgently.
"Right," Luna agreed, focusing her energy, and the room was filled with a brilliant flash of light as they transformed into their fairy forms.
The monster emerged from the shadows, its hideous form illuminated by the light from their transformation. It hissed, baring its fangs and preparing to attack.
"Stay back, Luna," Danielle commanded. "I'll handle this."
But Luna shook her head. "No, we're in this together."
The monster lunged at them, but Luna was quick to react. She created a barrier to protect them. The monster collided with the shield, hissing in frustration.
Danielle seized the opportunity. "FIRE BOLT!" she called out, sending a powerful surge of magic towards the creature. The monster was knocked back, but it quickly regained its composure, slithering around the room in search of another angle of attack.
Just then, the door burst open, and Carissa, Artemisia, Crystal, and Lithia rushed in, already transformed and ready to fight.
"We heard the noise," Carissa said breathlessly. "Are you okay?"
"We're fine," Danielle replied.
Artemisia stepped forward, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the monster. "Let's finish this together," she said. "BREATH OF FLOWERS!" She sent a flurry of petals towards the monster.
The monster evaded the attack, slithering rapidly and escaping through the open window. "It's getting away!" Crystal shouted.
"Not if we can help it," Luna said determinedly. The fairies quickly flew out the window and spotted the monster in the school's courtyard. Luna focused her magic and cast, "DAZZLING LIGHT!" A brilliant beam of light shot out, illuminating the night.
To their shock, the creature opened its mouth and absorbed the light. Luna gasped as the monster's eyes glowed with the energy it had consumed. It then regurgitated the spell, launching a powerful beam of light back at her.
Luna barely had time to react before the monster's counterattack struck her, knocking her out of the air.
"Luna!" Danielle screamed as she watched her friend plummet. Without hesitation, she swooped down and caught Luna just before she hit the ground.
