The hospital Mrs. Pham was recuperating in was a very famous private hospital in Seoul. The cost for a single room was more than the cost of a five star hotel.

When Hanni was a child, she had followed her mother as she took part in some charity works. As she grew older, she began to accompany her on trips to the countryside or mountainous areas. She had always understood how fortunate her life was, so she continued participating in as much charity work as she could. But she never thought that one day, she would feel that her mother's hospitalization fees were expensive and that they would struggle to pay them.

"What's the matter?" Minji looked puzzled as they stood before the hospital doors.

"It's nothing." Hanni returned to herself and looked at Minji sincerely. "Thank you."

"Huh? You're welcome." Minji automatically responded, but she didn't understand why Hanni suddenly decided to thank her.

"This is for you," Hanni handed her the pot of aloe vera.

Minji accepted it.

"When we get in there, you give it to my mom and say I chose it for you," Hanni said.

"Thank you..." Minji wasn't an idiot, she understood the meaning of Hanni's words.

"You're welcome." Hanni's eyes curved, and she looked very beautiful smiling like this.

Minji felt herself losing control of her expression. She hurriedly looked down at the potted plant in her arms, her back becoming stiff.

Hanni blinked with dismay, wondering why the pleasant atmosphere they had just shared suddenly turned awkward. She smiled, embarrassed and finally said, "Let's go up."

"En." Minji's expression remained flat as she followed Hanni, but in her heart, she scolded herself mercilessly.

Minji, you blockhead acting so obviously! She smiled at you, and you dare not look at it?

"Here we are." Hanni reminded Minji again before raising her hand and knocking on the door.

When Mr. Pham opened the door and saw that it was his daughter and Minji, his expression changed from joy to a somewhat complex one. "How come you're here?"

"Coming to see my mom," Hanni replied.

"It's just your mom's old illness acting up, she's fine." Mr. Pham said.

"I know, dad. I just wanted to see her." Hanni smiled at her father, then went inside leaving the two awkwardly standing outside the room.

"Cough... well, go on." Mr. Pham coughed and broke the silence first.

"Thank you... dad." Minji remembered Hanni's advice and had been mentally preparing herself throughout the entire drive. So when she saw her father-in-law, she wasn't too embarrassed.

Mr. Pham was somewhat surprised. He looked at Minji with a serious expression, then finally nodded in response. The two entered the room one after the other, only to hear the mother daughter pair engaged in friendly conversation.

"Roseanne, Minji came by too," Mr. Pham reminded his wife.

When Mrs. Pham heard her husband's voice, she looked up with a complex expression. Resentment filled her heart for the person who had taken their daughter away, coupled with bitterness toward her own body for burdening both her husband and daughter, allowing Minji to take advantage of them. Although she understood that Minji hadn't truly done anything wrong, she found it impossible to like her daughter-in-law.

Mrs. Pham had a clear vision of her ideal future daughter-in-law. She hoped for someone who wasn't excessively wealthy but was cultured and elegant. She wished for someone who shared Hanni's beliefs, someone with whom they could finish each other's sentences and who could genuinely love her daughter.
