"Let me go," Hanni struggled.
Minji released her wife, allowing herself to be pushed away, but she kept a firm hold on Hanni's hand, anxiously waiting for an answer.
Hanni stared at Minji and calmly replied, "I don't believe you."
Minji was so shocked that she couldn't speak for a few moments.
"Minji, we've been married for five years. Five years is a long time. Even if I were incredibly foolish, I think I would know whether my wife loves me or not," Hanni said. "The person you have in your heart isn't me."
"If I didn't have you in my heart, why would I have married you?" Minji asked, grasping her wife's other hand.
"I don't know. Why don't you tell me?" Hanni responded, giving Minji a bitter smile.
At first, she thought that Minji simply wanted the prestige that came with her surname. However, in the past five years of their marriage, not once did Minji use her identity to do anything. There was once a time that she thought Minji might have feelings for her, but years of icy countenance and indifferent expressions had long dissuaded her of that idea.
"Hanni, what's the matter?" Minji asked, shocked by the sadness on Hanni's face.
Hanni blinked, and tears began to spill from the corners of her eyes. Embarrassed and panicked, she tried to flee. "I'm going to rest. I'll properly consider having a child."
Her wife's tears left Minji frozen in place, unable to move. She watched numbly as Hanni walked upstairs, disappearing from her sight. The image of Hanni's heartbroken expression seared into her mind like an indelible mark.
Minji felt suffocated. She didn't dare go upstairs, unsure of how to fix things. Ultimately, she remained in the living room for an hour, lost and confused, before retreating to her study.
When Minji turned on her computer, she opened a familiar folder and found an encrypted file inside. She recognized it from before she confessed her feelings to Hanni. Hesitating for a moment, she input the familiar password and was greeted by a folder filled with photos of her wife.
Minji scrolled through the files one by one. Like the photos on her phone, almost all of them were taken secretly. However, after November 2022, something was missing. Comparing the files, she realized that Hanni no longer smiled, her wife's bright eyes and cute little dimple had vanished.
Without hesitation, Minji slammed her computer shut. She pointed at the broken screen and scolded, "You blockhead, what have you done for the past five years? How did my beloved wife end up like this?"
Minji paced around her study, frustration boiling inside her. As her anger gradually subsided, she went upstairs.
Entering the bedroom, Minji saw her wife lying on the bed. After a moment's hesitation, she climbed into bed and carefully wrapped her arms around Hanni.
"Don't touch me," Hanni's cold voice rang out.
Minji froze for a moment before letting go. Neither of them slept well that night, but when the sun rose the next day, she bought a rose and brought it to Hanni in bed.
"I said you didn't need to..."
"I remember," Minji replied, looking at her wife earnestly. "But is it wrong for me to give my wife flowers?"
"No," Hanni said, momentarily stunned.
"Then I'll give this to you. Will you accept it?" Minji asked.
Hanni glanced at the rose in her hand. She hesitated for about two seconds before whispering, "Thank you."
Minji smiled. "I thought about what happened yesterday all night. You said you don't believe that I like you."
