Although the accident had been serious, Minji recovered quickly. After just three days of observation, the doctor approved her discharge so she could continue recovering at home.
Hanni arrived early at the hospital to pick up her wife. She packed up Minji's things and ran around the hospital, handling all the discharge paperwork.
Minji tried to help a few times, but Hanni wouldn't let her, so she finally settled into a chair, watching her wife busily work. The sight warmed her heart.
"Lower your head a little," Hanni suddenly said, walking over to Minji.
Minji obediently leaned down.
Hanni pulled out a black cap she'd bought the day before and gently placed it on her wife's head. Smiling, she said, "There, all done."
Minji felt the cap and looked a little disappointed. "It's a hat..."
"What were you expecting?" Hanni asked, giving her wife a teasing smile.
"Nothing," Minji muttered, touching the cap again. "It's warm."
"Alright, let's go." Hanni picked up the bag at her feet, slinging it over one shoulder as she wrapped her arm around Minji's waist, leading her wife out of the hospital.
In the parking lot, Hanni opened the passenger door for her wife. Surprised by this role reversal, Minji hesitated for a moment.
"Get in," Hanni prompted with a grin.
"Oh," Minji climbed in, feeling oddly satisfied.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Hanni asked as she settled into the driver's seat. She looked over and saw Minji's conflicted expression.
Minji sighed dramatically. "If I'd known getting hurt would get me such amazing treatment, I'd have checked into the hospital right after our wedding."
"Well, instead, someone decided to go on a business trip," Hanni quipped, raising an eyebrow.
Minji pouted. "I was wrong." She'd thought she was being considerate then, but now she saw how foolish that decision had been.
Seeing her wife's serious expression, Hanni couldn't help but smile. She raised a finger, beckoning Minji closer.
Minji leaned in, and Hanni surprised her with a kiss. Her eyes widened.
Hanni asked, "When I asked you to lean down earlier, were you hoping for a kiss?"
Minji's cheeks reddened as she blinked, flustered. "I... I didn't realize what you were doing in time. Could you... maybe do that again?"
Hanni laughed, wrapped her arms around Minji's neck, and kissed her wife again. This time, Minji responded, deepening the kiss.
After ten minutes, Hanni had to pause, needing a moment to regain her composure before driving. When they finally reached the Pham family home, they were half an hour behind schedule.
Hanni checked her slightly swollen lips in the rearview mirror, she muttered, "How am I supposed to explain this to my parents?"
Minji could only look on sheepishly, a bit too pleased with herself.
The day of Minji's discharge coincided with Lunar New Year's Eve. Hanni and Minji had planned to spend the holiday at the Pham family home. Since dinner was planned for the evening, lunch was simple. Afterward, Hanni suggested her wife take a nap, but Minji didn't want to, so she decided to show Minji around.
"That swing was made especially for me by my dad when I was a kid," Hanni said as they reached the courtyard, pointing to a sturdy swing set under a tree. "It's been there for more than twenty years. When it was first built, I'd beg him to push me every day, and I wouldn't let anyone else do it. My dad ended up being late to work so many times because of me. Mom still teases me about it sometimes."
