arriving home that same day after aj's ex girlfriend had come into liberty's work, still yet to mention anything about anna to him, she went to have a shower while he started making them dinner.
liberty didn't know what to do. she was so stuck in her thoughts, doing a mental pros and cons list of things to day and how list they might play out depending on what she would say.
coming back out to the kitchen, she forced a smile on her face as she wandered over to her boyfriend who was dishing up a plate each.
"what's on the menu tonight, boyfriend?"
"chicken and cashew."
"oh.."
"what?" he groaned as he look at her.
"i can't eat cashews.."
"i go out of my way to make you dinner every fuckin' night and you're going to stand there and be ungrateful all over fucking cashews? fucking grow up and eat it!" he raised his voice at her. "or pick them out if you're going to be fucking fussy. jesus."
"i could die if i eat them.." she slightly mumbled, not knowing where this outburst had come from.
"i shouldn't have told you they were in there then i wouldn't have to deal with your whining," he muttered and followed with a scoffed. "if you can't have it then don't fucking eat. i'm sick of having to cater to your bullshit."
"okay.." she mumbled, and then awkwardly stood there for a moment in silence. "um.. i'm going to pack up some of my stuff-"
"why?!"
"you know that trip around everywhere, that i told you i had coming up.. it's thursday that i leave to go home.. i'm just going to need some of my stuff, that's all.."
"you're not going," he scoffed.
".. i know you don't like me being away from you so you can come if you'd like," she suggested with a small sniffle. "but i need to be there.. i need to go.."
"you don't need to go anywhere."
liberty's eyes continued to follow him as he walked over to the dinning table with his plate of food — the one he made, the food already back in the pan with the leftover, not even wanting to give her the option to getting some of it.
"i do need to.. my family knows how important easter weekend is to me, and if i don't go my mom will probably call the police on me or something," she chuckled to lighten the tone.
"changing your mind isn't a crime," he laughed.
"aj, come with me," she finally went over at sat down across from him, not once gaining his gaze as his eyes were glued to his phone. "i'll pay for your flights if you want.."
"how long?" he bluntly questioned.
"leave on thursday for seattle, come back tuesday.." she explained. "then my sister's twenty-first is here next weekend and then i go to detroit the weekend after.."
"pick one to do."
"they're all very important to me.." she replied, trying to hold back any tears. "i'm going to them all, aj. i made these plans well before i met you, you knew this was happening.."
"i don't care."
"we're celebrating my brother who has passed away.. my sister's birthday, and then my brother's wedding.. i will be at of them, i'm sorry but my family means a lot to me.."
"oh my god, get the fucking memo and shut up already!" he scoffed, his gaze finally breaking from his phone as he looked across at her. "i don't care. you can pick one thing. there's no need to see them that many times. that's excessive."
"i want to break up.."
"over something so fucking stupid?!" he raised his voice even more whilst throwing his phone down on the table and fork onto his dish.
"i don't think we're going to work.." she sniffled, still slightly mumbling her words.
he quickly got up, moving her side as he tightly gripped onto her throat, focusing her to look up at him. "what the fuck did you just say?" he muttered between his teeth.
"i.. i don't think.. we're gonna work.." she struggled to get her words out.
"book the fucking flight then," he huffed, shoving her back as he let go of her.
her hand went to her neck, not saying anything while trying to steady her breath and closely watching him as he walked over to the kitchen, grabbing his wallet before coming back.
"same fucking flight or we're not going," he threw his licences down in front of her. "okay?"
"okay," she quickly nodded.
"and i don't want to hear a word about the gay name my fucked up mom gave me. i need to go get it changed." she repeated the action. "i don't know who the fuck told them augustine-jamari," he said his own name in a mocking, annoyed way. "was a good fucking name cause it's not."
grabbing her phone out of her pocket, she found her flight information before booking him a seat on the same flight — which luckily there was still one available on the flight only a couple days away and so close to easter weekend.
and after secretly taking a photo of his license information, she told him it was all booked and handed it back to him with a small smile and 'thank you'.
"i'm going to go put my phone on charge," she explained as she stood up.
aj not caring about her doing as she wandered off to the bedroom, taking a seat on the edge of the bed facing the door as she tried to quickly type daniel's phone number into her new message, her hands shaking as she worried about him coming down the hall whilst doing so.
reading over it multiple times to make sure it was written in correctly before sending him the photo with a few simply texts that read;
' aj '
' pls don't text back '
' <4 jamesy '
deleting the history and the photo from her camera roll and recently deleted, she pulled her phone in to change. running over to flush the toilet so she had an excuse, then finally heading back out to her boyfriend.
