The next day, I dreaded work. I didn't want to go. I didn't know what to expect.

Bodies? Heads?

I let out a breath and got to work.

I opened her room door. It wasn't as bad as yesterday but it was still bad.

I cleaned the entire room and then the bathroom and headed to the throne room. I swallowed harshly and pushed open the golden doors.

Oh God.

-

London rubbed my back as I emptied my breakfast in the toilet. She sighed.

"You need to see her and tell her that you can't keep cleaning up that mess." London said.

It was exactly as I had guessed.

Heads and dismembered bodies.

"I can't speak up about it. Do you want me to die?"

London frowned.

"But—"

"I'll be fine. I'm just not used to it." I reassured her.

I flushed the toilet and we left the bathroom and went back to the kitchen where I saw Solana.

Solana nodded to us and we bowed in respect.

London took up the tray and placed it in my hands.

"Please be careful."

I nodded with a smile.

"I'll try."

London glared at me by that and I headed to Athena's office.

Yesterday when I delivered her lunch to her office, I didn't stick around long enough to find out if she was there or not. I just placed it on her table and rushed out like my worst nightmare was in the room.

Today, though, I was going to push my luck.

I climbed the last step and headed to her office. I smiled at the guard and he nodded firmly, opening the door for me and closed it after I entered.

I looked around the office.

It was painted lightly, in lavender, with newly polished furniture inside. To the far left, a bookshelf leaned against the wall containing all different genres of books and tapes. Beside it was a small table with random things that went with books — page markers, sticky notes, pens, a lighter and a bottle opener.

Hmm.

I placed the tray on her table and I trailed my finger over the hard wood and over the edges.

I admired her office.

It was light and beautiful, simple I might say.

"What are you doing?"

I jumped at the voice and turned around to see Athena seeing at me with a look in her eyes. Anger?

"Uh—"

"You're only here to bring my lunch and get out."

"I—"

"Leave."

"Y—"

"Shut up. Now."

Okay.

I scurried past her and down the stairs.

She's so rude, omg.

I went back to London and she gave me a look.

"I didn't see her." I lied, "her office was empty and untouched from yesterday so it means I don't have to go back up there in the evening."

It was nothing to tell her.

And, it was embarrassing how she yelled at me.

London shook her head.

"Maybe speak to Miss Solana. She's nice."

I held her by her shoulders and looked her in the eyes.

"Its okay, London." I told her. "It's okay. It's a part of the job and I know what I was signing up for." No I did not know. "We can leave Miss Solana out of this. Now it's my lunch time and I know you don't have anything preparing so what do you say we make the best out of our time here?"

London sighed and then nodded.

"Okay."

"Okay?"

"Okay."

"Good." I threw my arm over her shoulder. "Now how about we go to the garden and see what kind of fruits there are?"

We went to the garden where we met the workers and we explored it. There were orange trees, apple trees, pine trees, grape trees and many more. The head gardener made us have some grapes and then we went to watch the vampires train. It was fun seeing them in action, using their speed, their eyes, their fangs, everything was fascinating.

I was missing out on this world.

I was curious to know more but I didn't let my curiosity get the best of me.

Later in the evening, I finished the rest of the work I had to do and then went back to London who was preparing dinner. I stayed with her until she finished and then we went back to our room.

I stared at the ceiling, thinking about Nana and my brother.

What were they doing? Did they miss me?
