Athena smiled darkly as she placed Ophelia's head on the ceiling. It swayed slightly before it came to a stop. Solana leaned against the door frame of the throne room as she watched sister.
She truly thought she lost it.
Athena had a smile on her face throughout the entire hanging of the ornament.
She picked the throne room because that's where she first met Lauren.
Athena landed on the ground and she looked up at the ornament that dangled from the ceiling.
"Splendid."
Athena looked at her sister.
"When are you going to keep the funeral?" Solana asked.
"Tomorrow." Athena said as she fanned Solana off. "Is that all?"
Solana nodded. She was wary of her sister's behaviour. She knew it was just a facade but she could break at any moment and Solana would hate if she isn't there to comfort her sister.
Athena left the throne room.
By now, the entire vampire nation-along with the other nations-had heard of the death of the human queen of the vampire nation. The vampire nation was devasted. Not many knew her but they saw her and could tell she was a bundle of joy.
Channer- the trainee who had flirted with her -was in shock when he heard the news. Even if he wasn't one hundred percent close with Lauren, he shed a few tears.
London on the other hand, was a mess.
"How could this have happened?" She sobbed to Judas as he held her in his arms. "No, no, no." London was still in disbelief. She didn't want to believe it. She haven't seen her body and she didn't plan to.
Athena entered her room and Lauren's scent hit her like a ton of bricks. Her face fell and she stared at the bed- the bed that they created so many memories in. The bed that many more memories were supposed to be created in.
Her eyes fell to the vanity.
Lauren's hair products was on the dresser, the wax, the edge control, the gel, everything. The numerous scrunchies were all over the place and so were claw clips of many different colors.
Her eyes went to the closet that was half opened.
Lauren's clothes were in there- where her scent resided the strongest. Athena couldn't face it, she couldn't face all of this alone.
She needed her mate.
This wasn't the life she had planned for her.
Athena ran a hand through her hair and inhaled sharply.
She walked towards the bedside table and picked up Lauren's phone. A sad smile graced her lips as she saw the wallpaper. Lauren was sitting in Athena's lap as she threw her head back with laughter. Athena had said something ridiculous to her about her falling off a horse when she was smaller.
Through the smile, tears pooled in her eyes.
Her grip tightened on the phone as tears blurred her vision. Tears fell down her cheeks and she placed her hand over her mouth as a sob came from her lips.
Athena slid to the ground as she broke down. The phone fell from her palms and Athena held her head down with her hands on the ground to brace her up.
"Come back to me." She sobbed. "This isn't re-real. It's a sick and fucking tw-twisted dream."
That's what she wanted to believe. That's what she tried to convince herself.
Athena's beast vanished to the back of her mind as it whined.
Athena felt like half of heart was being ripped from the other half, slowly.
She was feeling the pain of everything now, at her weakest.
Athena screamed in pain as she clutched her shirt as if trying to stop the pain.
"Stop." She sobbed. "Lauren, mama, thi-this isn't real."
An excruciating pain ran over her body and she sobbed even harder.
Athena cried until she couldn't cry anymore, until her eyes were dry. It was now nightfall as she leaned against the queen sized bed. Her eyes were bloodshot red, swollen and puffy.
She didn't have the energy to move.
She didn't have to the energy to shower or to wash Ophelia's blood off of her from earlier.
She couldn't move. Her muscles were frozen in their place.
Athena didn't know when she fell asleep but she did. A few hours later, Solana entered the room and saw Athena laying on the ground. Her heart broke for her sister.
Not even on her worse enemy she wouldn't wish this.
Solana walked towards Athena and lifted her, placing her on the bed. She pushed her hair behind her ears and she placed the sheet over her body. Athena whimpered in her sleep as her eyebrows furrowed. Tears fell from her eyes but no sound came from her mouth.
Solana knew she was having a bad dream.
Solana left after a bit and closed the door on her way out. She leaned against it and looked up at the ceiling with teary eyes.
"Lauren, why?"
Wherever Lauren was, she prayed she could hear her.
