Chapter 45

Clio

I don't want to face them, I don't want to see her.

“ Uncle Alastair, it's been a while. ” Tumayo si Zilas to greet Alastair but I remained seated, nasa likuran ko sila, sa mismong likuran ko.

“ Your bodyguard? ” I heard Alastair asked, even without looking I can tell his pointing at me.

“ Zilas, you're so kind. You bring your bodyguard to this kind of event, he should be thankful that he will experience this kind of event once in his lifetime. ” It was Elodie, with her mocking voice.

“ Excuse me?” Zilas sounds offended “ I would appreciate it if you don't belittle my fiance.”

“ Oh, I'm terribly sorry Zilas. I didn't know. I thought your fiance would be more mannered, yet he didn't even stand up to greet — ”

“ My love, that's enough. ” Alastair cut off her words, he knew if she goes on Zilas won't be hearing anything from them.

“ If you have nothing better to say then please, I would appreciate it if you shut your mouth. Uncle Alastair, if your wife approaches me again with an intent to disrespect my fiance I wouldn't have any second thought of cutting off our contract. Losing you won't make a difference to my agency. I hope I make this clear to you. ” Zilas tone was calm and composed yet there's a hint of anger from it.

“ Why make a big deal out of this, clearly Elodie had said her sorry. Don't be childish. ” Sumbat ni Alastair, they were arguing with such a calm tone it's scary. Zilas' hands went to my shoulder parang kumukuha siya ng lakas mula don.

“ Your wife disrespected my fiance, how can I not make a big deal out of this? You think I'll just stand here and take all her hateful words like it's nothing? I'm not being childish, Uncle. I'm defending my man. ” His words made my heart flutter, I was once filled with anger but when I heard him it put out the fire within me. Zilas made me feel like I could face anything.

“ Zilas, ” I called out to my fiance and face them.

The moment I turned to them, Elodie's face turned pale. Her eyes widened as if she just saw a deadman's ghost. I can even see her mouth my name out of surprise.

“ Alastair Haiden, ” I saw Alastair stretching out his hands for a handshake. I should play it cool, relax Clio, Elodie means nothing to you anymore. She's just a hypocrite, a wanna-be rich bitch.

“ Clio Stormhell, ” we shook our hands. I can feel how Alastair here squeezes my hand as if he's trying to appear intimidating, too bad I'm stronger than him. If he wants this type of handshake then I shall give it to him, I did nothing towards him yet he already hates me. With all of my strength, I squeeze his hand to give him a taste of his own medicine. I think I squeeze it too hard, may naramdaman kasi akong nag crack sa daliri niya.

Alastair grimaced in pain and immediately pulled his hand back to him, I can see how he massages his fingers to lessen the pain. Elodie was still there beside Alastair, she immediately averted her eyes when I looked at her.

“ This is my wife, Elodie Gray. ” Alastair introduced her, there's no need for that. Kilalang kilala ko kung sino siya, kahit tinatagong kulay niyan nakita ko na. There's no need for further introduction.

“ I'm Elodie Gray, ” with a slight trembling hand Elodie reach for a handshake. Hypocrite. She's really going to pretend like she doesn't know me? How far is she going to go just to stick with this old geezer?

“ I know.. ” Sagot ko, hindi ko na inabot ang kamay niya. I thought the anger in me had subsided but I was wrong, her face fueled it more. She turned into a larger fire. I can't explain it in a way that it's understandable, this anger cannot be comprehended nor can be explained by mere words.

“ You two know each other? ” Zilas asked, hindi ko alam kung bakit pero kinabahan ako sa tanong niya pero sa tingin ko mas kinakabahan si Elodie. I can see sweat running down her face, there was panicked her eyes. Should I tell him? Should I drop the secret? It would ruin whatever lies Elodie built for herself, now that I think about it. The sight of her suffering would be lovely.

“ She's — ”

“ MOMMY!!!!! MOMMY!!!! MAMA!!! MOMMY!!! MAMA!!! WAAAAH!!! ” It was a scream from a familiar voice, agad kaming napatingin sa direksyon kung saan 'yun nanggaling. It was Calliope running towards us, she was crying while being chased by Zaimi.

“ Solnishka!! Don't run! You'll hurt yourself!! Solnishka, grandaddy just wants to feed you dinner! Don't run!! ” Zaimi was screaming for her to stop but my daughter got her hard headedness from me so she didn't listen. Agad yumakap si Calliope sa binti ni Zilas, kinarga naman siya nito.

“ I didn't know you had a daughter, ” Alastair spoke. It caught my attention especially because Elodie is with him, let's see her reaction. I want to rub the fact that my daughter can live without her, I want to rub the fact that my daughter is happy even without her.

I caught no emotion on Elodie's face, she acts like wala siyang nakita. She was composed as if hindi niya anak ang nasa harapan niya, parang hindi niya nakita ang responsibilidad na tinalikuran niya.

“ I don't need to tell you about every little detail that happens in my life. Now, if you'll excuse me.”  Zilas grabbed my hand and with Calliope by his arms we walked away from them. Papalapit kami sa ama ni Zilas.

“ Seriously Calliope, do you know what you did is dangerous? You could have slipped and hit your head, that's very scary. ” Yumakap lang si Calliope sa leeg ni Zilas as habang nanenermon si Zaimi.

I look behind me to see Alastair holding Elodie's waist as they walk away, they were discussing something while paving their way somewhere.

“ Clio? ” Tawag ni Zilas sa akin, napatingin ako sa kaniya. He was looking at me with his eyebrows furrowed.

“ Why are you looking at Alastair's wife as if she interests you? ” Tanong ni Zilas habang nakatingin sa akin ng masama. I'm not! Saan niya naman nakuha ang idea na 'yan?!

“ Hindi ah, she doesn't interest me a bit. You're probably just seeing things. ” I know I messed up when I saw him clenched his jaw while looking at me with bullets in his eyes. Shit. His pissed.

“ Daddy, can you look after Calliope for me? I need to talk to Clio. ”
